What movie or TV-episode had your favorite car-chases?

I think my number one favorite car-chasing scene was from Robert Dineros movie "Ronin" when he was driving the Mercedes and chasing the girl in the BMW.

That was one of the best chases I've seen.

Then there is of coarse the famous Eleanor chase in Nicolas Cages "Gone in 60 Seconds".

My favoutite chase has to be the three mini's in the Italian Job,amazing scenes as they use roads, sidewalks? steps, sewer tunnels and so on.The jump they done on the roof of the old Fiat factory was for real too-no cg tricks back then.

The two chase scenes in Ronin are pretty good too.

2. The French Connection perhaps not a "chase," in the normal sense, but a thrill ride nonetheless.

He was chasing a train. It qualifies and it was very good.

In general, the Europeans do better chases in movies. They hang it out more and really go for the gusto. The American movie makers used to do it but have really not done any good ones since maybe the mid-70s.

I hate the Fast and Furious movies. Unrealistic and melodramatic, with bad acting thrown in.

I would have to go for Ronin, the Bourne movies, and Bullitt as my faves.

I would add "Gumball Rally" and "Cannonball Run" because they were pretty humorous and did have some cool cars at speed and I am sorry, but if Adrienne Barbeau and Marilu Henner in tight shiny jumpsuits B) driving a howling Countach across the desert does'nt move you, you must be in a coma!

Despite what people may say about the F&F series, I think Tokyo Drift had one of the coolest chase scenes ever as unrealistic as it maybe. It was still awesome watching them drift/race/chase and crash their way through the Tokyo streets. Coolest scene I thought was when they were heading towards the crowd and the crowd split in half allowing the cars to drift by.

The beginning of the Cannonball Run scene always put a smile on my face. The two "ladies" in the black Countach being chased by the police on the dessert highways was very awesome and the sound of that Countach gives me goosebumps even today as I watch it for the 9-millionth time! LOL!

I have to wonder how much of this stuff today is computer generated or enhanced. I may be old school but I like real action. It seems more satisfying because I can relate to it better. I have driven fast before, spun out a few times and melted a few tires. Most cars that barrel roll don't drive away after!

I think I saw part of that Tokyo Drift movie on TV. Didn't they have a scene in racing in a parking ramp? That wasn't too bad.

I just remembered another movie that had some excellent scenes in a parking ramp. "The Driver" with Ryan O'neal from about 1978.

Most of it. It's much cheaper to do a lot of the stuff on a computer than to hire the drivers, buy the cars, set up remote location shoots, bring dozens and dozens of people and tons of equipment to the site, cater the shoot, buy the insurance, get the permits to block traffic, worry about the weather, etc.

And the F&F movies are basically aimed at teenage gamers, they're not "serious" movies...so realism isn't even an issue–it's all about movement, action and flashing lights/explosions/crashes. Gotta keep the kid's attention span focused... for at least a few seconds! B)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the chase scenes from any of the Mad Max movies. Those were all(in my opinion) rather spectacular, especially considering when they were done. The 40 minute (I think it was 40 minutes) chase scene at the end of the original Gone in 60 Seconds. The chase scene in Bad Boys 2, with the Ferrari chasing down the stolen car hauler. The race/chase scene at the end of the HBO? movie Catch Me if You Can.

How about Johnny English with his Austin Martin chasing the Hertz car, then mistaking a real one heading to a funeral where he jumps on the coffin?

One of the best scenes was when Johnny's Austin accidently got dropped on the flat-bed and passed a camera. He then fired a tiny rocket and blew up the camera! LOL!

Then there's two great James Bond flicks. My first favorite is The Spy Who Loved Me. James and his Russian agent are in that Lotus Esprit which gets chased around the mountain, then dives into the Ocean and turns into a Submarine.

Second one is Never Say Never Again with Sean Connery's motorbike chasing Flatima Blush's red Renault R5-Turbo.

I'm just a LITTLE partial to Smokey and the Bandit!

My other favorites are the Dukes(the series) the new Gone in 60, Bullitt, Cannonball Run I and II, the origional Herbie, and the newest FnF!

My favorites for older movies--Bullitt, French Connection, Seven Ups, Duel, White Lightning (love that 71 Galaxie), The Driver, Blues Brothers, To Live and Die in LA. Many of the older Bond movies had great chases..loved the car scenes in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, though George Lazenby was the worst Bond, IMHO.

For more recent movies-- Ronin (my favorite overall, probably), Transporter (the first one, though the 2nd and 3rd had some decent chases), the freeway chase in the 2nd/3rd Matrix movies, and the recent Bond movies had some good ones also.
