Greg Cullinan Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I've ordered the new release of the streetfighter kit,For some reason this kit seems very familiar to me and I have a strong desire to build it. Ofcourse I know it was around when I was a kid in the 70s but whether I previously built it or wanted it escapes me.Anyway I wanted to see if anyone has a completed version in their collection that would be willing to share? Thanks
Randy Kern Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Greg, I still managed to keep mine I built 39 years ago, with the box! I just got the re-issued one at our club meeting yesterday, and it looks to be exactly the same as the original, including that classic box art! I don't care what people pick at about this kit, as I still get a kick out of it! Here you go.
Randy Kern Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Roger, all of the glass is red, including the head and tail light lenses. The only thing I can find that the original had, that the re-issue doesn't have, are the few sponsor decals (Doug's Headers and Crane Cams).
Greg Cullinan Posted December 7, 2009 Author Posted December 7, 2009 Thanks Randy. That is outstanding that you have your original from 39 years ago and it could pass for being completed today.I should really save my boxes from the models I build.I like this kits box art as much if not more then I like the model.
Daniel Peterson Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Like you guys, I had one years ago. Aside from the minor decal omissions, the kit is a direct re-pop, and a nice one at that. I picked one up this weekend too, and while it is a very elementary kit from an engineering perspective, with comically large ladder bars, a straight axle (!) and dated (call them vintage if it makes you feel better) custom touches, this kit has a cool factor that's almost off the scale. You know, the wagon could make a cool gasser...or you could replace the side pipes with aluminum tubing, update the rolling stock, paint the roof filler portion of the glass, black out the rear taillight and and graft some cool taillights to it...or you could make it the tow car portion of a cool race car team; picture a matching painted F/E rail on a trailer behind it. With a kit like this around, I might actually build something sooner than later.
Joe Handley Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Here's a link to the pics of the one I bought earlier today. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v698/bjo...reet%20Fighter/
Casey Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) That's very cool that you still have both the model and box. Here's the Street Fighter page on Tom Daniel's 'site: http://tomdaniel.com/85_kits/frm_85kits.html Edited January 6, 2010 by Casey
Greg Cullinan Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 Mr. Daniel has alot of cool kits under his belt. It's a shame most of them stay sold out on his site.
Guest Johnny Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Bought the kit when it first hit the shelves! Thought it was the greatest custom ever at the time and still think it is one of Tom Daniels best! Had it around for years then in some magazine in the early 80's I saw a customized (stretched) Deora custom car hauler domeone had built. Two rear axles and decided that the Street Fighter would make a good one too! So with a broken kit from a friend I set off to stretch the body and found my skills were not as advanced as my ideas and it eventually wound up in the parts box and most eventuallt gave away or trashed! After seeing it out and one like this one built. I have the yearning to recapture a day from my youth and build it again! ORIGINAL!!!
samdiego Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I've had this one at least 5 times since the original issue. It's good to see TD getiing back in the limelight.
Tony T Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Is this the same as the Bad Actor kit?? I bought a couple of those maybe 10 years ago, as a Selected Subject Series release, in off-white plastic, with clear windows. Just curious.

No, the current version is true to the orignal release with red tinted 'glass', molded in orange, and the 3/4 roof length sunroof panel.
Guest Johnny Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Okay, so is it from the same mould? Yes it came from the same model as it evolved over the years. Now it is back in it's original form!
Tony T Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Out of sheer curiosity, as I haven't got the Streetfighter kit, what are the differences that were un-done from the Bad Actor kit, other than the red glass?

Tony T Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Great, thanks for that Casey. Much appreciated!
