HELP!!!! Firefox is a particular browser, like Internet Explorer or Safari or Chrome. Once you download Firefox, you have to install it! Double click on the Firefox icon, that should start the installation process. What you want to do is install Firefox, then use that when you go online instead of the browser you're using now. You might have to give Joy a call...

Eshaver Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Harry , Firefox is not a "Paniceia " I had to go to my tools and delete it as it was a constant pain . It never did what is was supposed to do and I wound up going MSN and Yahoo . Ed Shaver Edited December 27, 2009 by Eshaver
Rick Schmidt Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I agree with Ed Firefox sucked for me. Dang menu thing is in the middle of my reply box too. Dunno what I'm supposed to do to get rid of it as I'm on AOL. Did the Firefox thing when SA "fixed" their forum and it still didn't work right for me, Had to just quit using the forum. I don't wanna have to quit here I like it here

AOL is just supplying your internet connection, it has nothing to do with how a web browser operates (unless you're using AOL's own native browser). If you're using Firefox or IE or any other browser, AOL has no control over how your browser operates. You must have some settings wrong or some problem on your end, because this site works perfectly for most people. Obviously if it's working correctly for most people, the ones who are having problems are having problems on their end, because if it was the site or Firefox, then everyone would be having the same problem. Try a different browser and see if there's any change.

Aaronw Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) AOL is notorious for having problems with websites. I belive it uses its own browser and my only experience with AOL (very brief, many years ago) it resists the use of another browser, it didn't even want to let me use another search engine. Unless it is the only option for an area I have no idea why anyone uses AOL, it costs more and is horrible. BTW updating to IE8 fixed the covered text box problem. IE7 was buggy so I was still using IE6. I've loaded and used Firefox but it has its own set of issues. It is not the perfection many make it out to be, plus I am used to IE. Rick Schmidt Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I surf the forums through AOL when SA broke theirs it became the first site I had an issue with and now that stupid bar on this one I can go thru IE on here but why should I ?? For those of you who wonder why I use it ? I use it because it works and I rarely have problems with it Why Fix what isn't broke ??

I know that AOL has it's own native browser, but you can shut it off and use another browser. If you're still on AOL you don't have to use their native browser. Get IE8 or something.
Jon Cole Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Maybe someone here can help me? All this talk of browsers, I hate to admit, but I don't even know what my browser is. I'm fairly certain that it is a version of IE. I have a new 'puter with Win7. Our ISP is Roadrunner by Time-Warner. How do I find out what version I have?

There should be an "About" button at the top of the browser frame somewhere. All browsers look a little different, so I can't say for sure where your "About" button exactly is. In Firefox it's the first link at the top left (actually in a dropdown menu when you click on "Firefox"...
Foxer Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Just a heads up George if you are going to try Firefox. It has an option to read your old IE bookmarks when installing and save a lot of time refinding them.

I have clicked on possibly every word, and each button available. Odd that such info is so hard to locate.

Odd that such info is so hard to locate. On IE 8, there is a '?' symbol in the main toolbar, top right. On the drop down associated w/ it, there is 'About Internet Explorer' at the bottom. Not sure what it looks like w/ older versions of IE.
Harry P. Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 When I open IE on my Mac, at the top left it says "Explorer", when I click on that I get a dropdown menu where you can see what version you have. If it's 6 or older, time to upgrade!

Just glad to know!
