Nick, i say go with the Formula! i knew a guy who had a base model Firebird and it was nothing to even remotely get excited about. i can't imagine building a model of one would be any more so.

i think you already built something as close to a base model as you'd want too with the Rockford car.

Dave

Well My plans Dave are to build all the available Pontiac models including the Base model, and Jim's car was a Esprit which had all the options.

I'm planning on building one each of the 4 available Pontiac F body models from '79- '81 aswell.

The Formula was just a nice looking package all together, nice, simple, yet it had its bold side. You don't see many modelers with the base or Formula's built on the tables at shows.

Both of those yr firebirds were basically junk and underpowered. I had a 71 w/ a 350 that was rated at 265 hp in 74 and on the 400 engine was rated at only 265 hp.You can thank the insurance companys and the gas crunch for destroying the American muscle car.

While that is true about the insurance companies and the gas crisis, I wouldn't say mid-70s Pontiacs were junk. Pontiac DID have the last hurrah in 74 with the SD455 in the Formula.....13:45 in the quarter mile off the showroom floor, in 1974....smog motor. With a little tweaking, mid 12s were easily possible.

Nick, I voted for the Formula too.

Took me a while to decide... If I had to pick one to cruise around in stock for stock, I'd go with the formula as it would probably turn more of the ladies heads. B)

If I was looking to build a nice powerful street car out of one, I'd go with the base model. I just LOVE sleepers! :D

I'm not a real big fan of scoops and louvers and ground effects etc... that come on some of the "high end" models of cars.

However, the formula of that year doesn't look bad at all in my opinion because its not loaded up with all of that stuff and the hood looks cool on it.

Tough choice, but I went with the base model. I guess I'm just a "plain jane" type of guy. ;)

Formula. I owned a 78 Formula once, with the option SBC. It had an untimely demise though, but some stupid girl driving a Buick Skylark going a est 110 MPH in the emergency lane until she ran out of room and hit a bunch of sand barrels which shot her out in to traffic, which took out my Formula and five other vehicles.

Turned out a walnut was stuck in the trottle linkage, she had time enough to rip the peddle clean off the floor and melt down the brakes but never thought to just turn off the ingnition. Of course she was uninsured as well.

Shure ,,but how many copies did they have made. After reading all the posts on that IMDB page you posted I noticed someone there said it's the same car too. Probably owned by one of those companys that rents cars out to TV and movie production companys.
