I dig full-size Chevrolets...here's one I've been wanting to try for years now, curiosity finally gave in, seems like it's gonna work out just fine.

Chevrolet discontinued the fastback after the 1968 model year. Also the last year for vent windows. I've always liked the 69's, but wondered how it would look with the swoopy roof...

I couldn't cut up a scarce 1969 to do this, so I'll use an easily obtainable AMT 1970. Here's what I started with:

And the AMT 1967 fastback:

Here's the cuts:

And the necessary mock-up:

Not sure if the vent windows will stay...it is a phantom after all!

That's pretty sweet! What did you use to make your cuts?

A razor saw mostly Brandon...I chain-drilled a few tight areas & filed & sanded to finish.

Hi Jeff, the mock up photo made the kit look like it was how it was meant to be!. If I was you, I'd get rid of the vent windows, but don't throw them too far away, just in case!

Just wondering, does the '68 interior tub still fit with the '67 fastback roof on it?, or do you have to extend the parcel shelf?

I can see a factory metallic gold body in my mind. What's your choice?

James.

Yeah James, the 69 tub still fits. The parcel shelf will be short though, I can use the one from the 67 interior.

As for color, that'll probably be a ways off, so lotsa time to decide...

That looks great, Jeff! G.M. could definitely have pulled off something like that without too much trouble and it would've sold quite well, I think.

For color, I could see that in something like Dusk Blue or Burgundy with either a blue or saddle interior.

How you gonna resolve the bulged out quarters on the 67 to the flatter lines of the70? It looks REALLY good so far. Are you just gonna file the 67 quarters flat? or you gonna build the flat sides of the 70 out? Like I said, it DOES look GOOD so far. Ain't plastic GREAT? Now what would it cost to do that in REAL LIFE????laugh.giflaugh.gifwink.gif

Are you going to put the '70 roof on the '67? That would make a neat pair...

OOO that formal roofline would make it look kinda Caprice-ish! GOOD idea Mr.Mike!biggrin.gifwink.gif

That is a good idea. The only issue I'd see is transposing the Coke-bottle fender tops, but it is, after all, a model, and a way to play with ideas.

The quarter panel cut lines actually line up quite nicely...in the pic it's only taped together for mock-up and shows some mismatch, once I glue it together permanently very little body work will be required.

No formal roof for the 67...I'm not a big fan of 67's, but these make great parts kits for other full-sizers!

Hey , Nice start on your build , gm DID actually make a sports roof 69 impala what they considered a fastback lol , i used to own one , heres a pic of one , although not mine , i wish i still had mine...although not a fastback, the roof was different than the standard caprice/impala. mine was an original ss with 427 and turbo 400 bought it back in the 80s for a mere 600.00 enough rambling , im getting tears on my keyboard...your model looks GREAT so far!!

Larger tires in the back! Fifteen inch L-50's on Cragar Keystone Klassics would look great.
