62Mercury002.jpg

This is a 62 Mercury that I've had sitting around for years. I kept thinking about building it, but the value kept going up, and I felt some guilt about building a perfect example of an unbuilt kit. I finally surrendered and built it. I wiped out it's collector value, but it sure was enjoyable, being transformed back to 1962. The hubcaps are not stock. I found the originals to be boring, and replaced them with some that would still blend in well. The originals are taped into the trunk area, just in case a future rebuilder ever wants them.

It turned out great! Love the red!

Almost half of the kits that I build are collector kits and I have no qualms about building them. Like you mentioned, it takes you back when you open the kit!

Collector value???

What's better... a "collectible" unbuilt kit in a box stored in a closet somewhere, or a nice model like this that you can display and say, "Yeah, I built that!"

Invest in stocks. Build models.

Collector value? Only good on the day you sell it.

It's worth more to you personally now that you can see it built! That's what they're really made for. Nice work :D

I similarly defiled an unbuilt '62 HT to look like the one my Grandfather had. Much nicer than looking at a box ;)

I don't get the whole mentality of guys who collect unbuilt kits- hey, I have no problem with it, just sayin' I don't get it! That model's sole purpose in life is to be built... how would YOU feel if somebody willfully deprived you of attaining your purpose in life?

I love seeing these rare old kits built up, ESPECIALLY when done this well, and it's a car I love... and I do love the '62 Merc!
