Thanks When Toby shows you the windshield, just say "thank you" And use the glue I gave him to re-glue the windshield back in.
Edward Gore Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I had a major FAIL with some glass recently I used this stuff to take away the initial violations after Then after dipping in Future and letting dry over night
CAL Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 (edited) I would sand and polish off as much as you can and shoot some Future on it. I had a clear part that was just scratched up and with Future on it you can't even tell. It is one of my best looking clear parts. Edited January 27, 2010 by CAL
Junkman Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 What kind of glue do you use to bond your windscreens?
disabled modeler Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I use Testors clear parts cement...It drys clear and have never had it fog parts.
Junkman Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I use wood glue. Costs about 3p a ton and does the job beautifully.
crazyjim Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 The November 2009 issue of MCM has an article by Mr. Obsessive about using clear acetate for glass.
Jon Cole Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 You need to sand it smooth, then sand out any sanding marks. The finer the grit you start out with, the better. After sanding, the polishing starts. Suggest you try glue that is "glass friendly". Clear two-part epoxy works the best. Next best is a clear "craft" type glue, similar to Elmers, but with more grip. Avoid glues that harm clear plastic. Super glue, and plastic cement- both tube and clear bottle. To avoid marks on the clear parts, perhaps "mask" off both sides with a Post-It trimmed to fit, keeping it away from the edges.
CAL Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 What kind of glue do you use to bond your windscreens? Micro Scale Krystal Clear.
Zoom Zoom Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Formula 560 Canopy Glue. Great stuff. Thick white glue (looks like Elmers, eleventy billion times stronger) that wipes clean w/water (damp cloth, damp cotton swab...to clean up excess) when still wet, dries nearly as strong as epoxy. Very similar to Microscale Krystal Klear, but has a nice applicator nozzle. Available at most hobby shops.
Railfreak78 Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 Thanks all for the ideas and thoughts. I forgot to mention that it was Testors orange/red tube. I hate that stuff but its all I have. Thanks Marty a ton! (Marty sanded and buffed it out and let me borrow some clear parts glue ) I never knew about. With as bad as my luck is with them I like that post it idea I will buy some clear parts or that Formula stuff soon the wash away idea sounds Brian proof
Brizio Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 You can also try to remove it with a piece of ice cream stick, you cut an edge, and make it flat. If it is a drop of glue you can remove it so.
Railfreak78 Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 Edward, Cal wow those are great lookin windows by the way. I've heard of Future but am very unfamiliar with it. What is it and you just dip windows in it? Sorry it's more than likely a well covered topic but hey... lol. Again thanks all for advice.

You can dip parts, spray through an airbrush, sable brush it on, etc ... Great medium with no fumes and water clean up. Edited January 28, 2010 by Edward Gore

935k3 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I am with mr. Downie on this one, Formala 560 is the best white glue there is. I started using it for allot more than windows. Even after drying it can be pealed off. It is far safer than using super glue for attaching parts to a painted body.
Jon Cole Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 It is floor wax, I just spray it on with an airbrush. No, it's a dessert topping!
