RodneyBad Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 (edited) Aoshimas Honda CR-V awd. Well I thought MrZinn would like a tag-a-long on the trails. Took awhile to figure out what I was doing for suspension. Lifted stock or lifted SAS.. SAS was easier.. Now onto the front. ?Chrome wheels or Hummer Wheels? Edited February 10, 2010 by Zukiholic
Railfreak78 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Wow I never knew they made a CRV like this. I used to drive one at a body shop with just about only the driver side, half the roof, and the rear pan cut out of it. Kinda creepy that thing went back out on the streets. Oh I vote chrome
Jon Cole Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 (edited) Chrome looks good, but if ya want to sell us (or yourself) on the CTIS wheels from the Hummer, you need to tell us what your color scheme may be. BTW, my wife drove a 2000 CR-V for years, I photographed it (like a model builder photographs cars) before we sold it if you want ref pics... http://public.fotki.com/JCole/our_vehicles/page2.html Edited February 10, 2010 by Spyder
whale392 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Now where did I put that Suzuki Samurai kit? Looks like you guys are gonna have your very own Japanese 4x4 club going on here!
RodneyBad Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 For color I was either thinking a Stock Red or Flat Green. Go Army look. Thanks for the pics Spyder I didn't even see yours till after I thought of the color red. Weird.. I;d like to find that color Gray for the Plastic interior. But what color would match it? I got a Isuzu VehiCross but I thought I saw one done? Also a AWD Astro Van
Blake Rogers Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 not a fan of the crv but it looks good man

Does your ZJ have yellow pinstripes that matche the ones on the CRV? #2. How'd you get overspray on the side of the dash?
Foxer Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 these are looking cool. Jack um up and get in the dirt!
Jon Cole Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Hey Spyder, I've got two questions on your pictures there. #1. Does your ZJ have yellow pinstripes that matche the ones on the CRV? #2. How'd you get overspray on the side of the dash? William- #1 answer: Yeah, I had a 50' roll, so I did the wifes CR-V after I did the Jeep. I chose yellow because I felt it contrasted well with the green metallic. #2 answer: Heh! Yeah, I noticed that in the pic, and I am 101% sure there is no overspray on the dash! All I can figure is it is a reflection from the inner door structure, the sun must have been shining on it(?). Only part of the car ever to be refinished is the rear quarter, and some of the rear door.
MyBradKeselowski Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Interesting subject and build. IMO the chrome wheels look better. I would like to build one with the low profile wheels/tires. Can't wait to see where you go with this one
RodneyBad Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) I'm gonna look into that Tamiya German Gray and hopefully prime and paint the Interior this weekend. I'm No Zinn or anything like that tho. Bumpers are underwrap till I locate the frame to body so I can cut off the stock bumpers which are the only thing that centers the body on the frame. CR-V is Primed and body checked for sanding. Mmmmm, Import kit and nearly No seams to sand, just primer. Going with the Hummer wheels and flat green. Made up the front suspension. fully adjustable too. (till glued ) stick pin is just there for mock-up. Just need to build a set for the rear. Perty much like the rear with Ladder bars for links(found on a toy hummer I stole for the SuperSwamper tires elsewhere) Sits about right. BTW: Hummer wheels were the best wheels for Off-Road since they were the only beadlock wheels that where DOT approved for street use. Edited February 12, 2010 by Zukiholic
RodneyBad Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Well I wasn't gonna do anything special for Bumpers But... Factory Bumpers are now off and in the planning stages. I've seen a few lifted Subarus, some Very Scarie and some very good and cool looking. Whelman: I was going to join the JORB guys here... (Japanese Off Road Box) but i think i traded my last Japanese SUVish thing to Rodney last year Which one could that be??? Can't help myself, kind've on a Import/4x4 stock piling mood. You could even build a Hummer, China owns those. I guess not really a JORB thing tho. LOL... If ya been thinking about the Subie, might as well get started. LOL.. Edited March 28, 2010 by Zukiholic
RodneyBad Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 is there ANY wheels that fit the old wide Formula Desert Dogs? Dave I used Fujimi (really wide) Wide wheels. Like these. I also found the wheels and tires in a 1/20 Toyota it's gonna take me a week to build the bumpers. Working alot and a slow builder..
RodneyBad Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 Alot of work on the front bumper Lil beefier than I wanted but it'll work just duckie. Still need some more work tho. I'll build a winch later. Now onto the planning stage for the rear. I outlined the front bumper since my light bulb blew and couldn't find another one. Hard to see all the angles on it.
RodneyBad Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 the front bumper looks very cool! looks like some body structure detail in the back? have you thought any about increasing the rear wheelbase some for tire clearance? not really much you can do about trimming the metal back becuase of the doors. what do people do with the 1:1 trucks like this? Dave In most cases. The push the rear suspension more out towards the rear and just trim the body away It's alot easier to trim the back half then deal with cuttin doors. I'll probley do a little bit of a stretch I removed the rear bumper and then added some underbody structure. some more thinking time is next. I know what I want to do just not sure exactly how to do it.
RodneyBad Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) Gettin the rear bumper figured out. Building it up and then I'll cut it down. How are those for Bumpers?? Edited February 17, 2010 by Zukiholic
RodneyBad Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 little more work and trimming Hooked it up with a swing-a-way spare tire mount. Don't mind the holding pins. A hummer spare tire and a cut out for a receiver hitch
Casey429 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Neat project. A CRV in any form is not likely to be seen on the trail, but heck, 10-15 years from now, it may become the new Samurai. It kinda reminds me of Four Wheeler's project TraiLex from a few years back. They took a Lexus GX 470 and made a pretty capabe wheeler out of it. It had body armor pretty similar to this, since the stock rear bumper cover wrapped around to the quarter panels. It was a crying shame when they gave it back to Lexus cause it went to the crusher. All that red tape about the liability of selling a modified vehicle.
Railfreak78 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Nice progress pics and I really like the bumpers! This build is really cool!
RodneyBad Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 Ya know Casey I sure do remember the Lexus GX 470 and even got a 350G to do it too. It is a shame they have to give their projects back. At least they got to use the Turtle alittle bit longer. But that would be too easy maybe next time tho. Thanks MrZinn, I'm not too bad at building bumpers. Next I have to build the winches. I know I've built 2 b-4. Just don't know where my spare one is.??? Good thing I have one on my 1:1 4by to measure up and build. THanks Brian I always find this to be the fun part. Finishing it is work.
RodneyBad Posted February 19, 2010 Author Posted February 19, 2010 I had a cradle mounted one but too heavy to lug around and receiver hitches are soo low to the ground. somebody casted one off of the Lori Croft Tomb Raider jeep but it is a wee bit under scale.(1/26) Winches are Easy tho. 4 different sizes of round tubs and 2 square tabs. 1 rectangle box for the solenoids working on one now.
RodneyBad Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Built me up One Warn Winch. Still needs a little bit of work tho. Don't mind the pins. I'll cut the ends off when ready. Gonna see if I can get a friend to cast it.. Easy to make but just time consuming when ya need a couple.
RodneyBad Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Thanks, It's not often I can take an Actual close up picture of something..LOL.. now I got to build a roller fairlead for it..
RodneyBad Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 roller fairlead I may make another one with bigger rollers. My downside right now is i built the Winch to scale but failed to make the winch opening big enough. Lil more trimming will be required or another bumper.
jeffs396 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Nice work Rodney! You need to join us here with your build... off road linky
