Guest Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Never heard of AMT's Shelby kit being molded in clear. At any rate, treat it like any other body, clean up, prime, paint.
george 53 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 The AMT 68 Shelby GT????? I've NEVER heard or SEEN a CLEAR bodied one!!!! And THAT kits been around for a LOOOOONG time! You MIGHT have you somethin rare there Daddy-O! But as far as paintin it goes, it should paint just like a regular kit. If you do paint it from the inside, make SURE there are NO flaws in the exterior when you put on your color coat or they'll REALLY show up. Just thonk of those clear hoods that you used to have to paint! Still, like i said, I've NEVER heard of that kit in clear plastic, much less SEEN one!!!
B_rad88 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Blake, can you post some pictures of this kit? yeah, same, i have never seen it, i have seen clear tamiya "special" kits, but not any amt/ertl, etc. kits. i remember revell or amt did make "neon" colored cars, that was made for use with black lights, i have seen them, but not a clear one thats not a tamiya kit!
gray07 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Never seen one maybe you might not want to paint it might be rare, lets see some pictures that would be cool looking
oldscool Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 If it is the new release that is molded in lime green then it may have a translucent look to it. I remember most of the kits back in the day that were molded in metallic colored plastic had a see- through look when held up to light. oldscool
Blake Rogers Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 ok guys here you go i should have made it more "Clear" !! its green the hole kit is lol but its looks see thru to me i guess the plastic is thin???? anyways here are the pics let me know what you guys think??????
B_rad88 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) oh, i see now, thats just the plastic then, nothing rare, i thought it was clear, lol. thank you for posting pics! i have a fujimi tommy kaira m13, and the red body looks "see-through" too. i think its the coloring of the plastic, its kinda like they (the model companies) watered down the color a bit, lol Edited March 9, 2010 by B_rad88
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Prime and paint that sucker as you would any model and you should be just fine.
Blake Rogers Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) ya Brandon odd eh lol a tommy kaira m13 whoa can't wait to see that one done. marc thanks i figured just do that but i need to ask the experts first!!! thanks for the help guys Edited March 9, 2010 by moparfan426
Guest Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Actually almost any kit will look like that if held up to a bright anough light.
Ryan Quantz Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Should have told us it was Translucent, not clear... You got me excited making me thing there was a Transparent kit!!
Blake Rogers Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 sorry ryan lol did't mean to midnightprowler i understand that but even with out the light lol odd but what you expect from AMT
CAL Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Should have told us it was Translucent, not clear... You got me excited making me thing there was a Transparent kit!! You can make any kit clear with transparent spray. sheeez everyone knows that.
beefheart22 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 If you're worried about stuff underneath showing through the paint job, a guy could put a good solid coat of gray primer before anything else.
jbwelda Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 aw shoot i was going to suggest masking off half the body, or a cutaway section, and detailing under it like you were seeing through a real car.
