Blake Rogers Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 i think that it took a lot of work to make it in to this
Rat Fink Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Shortie busses. I've seen a few, they're cool and all but think it's a waste of a perfectly good bus...or two.
Blake Rogers Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 i think so to i love old V-dubs myself
Jon Cole Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Quite a popular conversion when they were plentiful! Same idea, just going in a different direction...
Jordan White Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) Here's some shorties I've seen. And here's one of the flattened variety. Edited March 18, 2010 by YJIslander
RodneyBad Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Looks like he kept chopping the top till it was even all the way around. Measure once, cut thrice. Cool looking shortie V-Dubs..
Railfreak78 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Sweet V-Dubs. I like the bus's but want to smack the shoe box owners. I'd cruise the 1st VW pic and the crazy Nova
Foxer Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 What do these shorties feel like at 80 mph? That's what I want to know.. and is it possible to round ANY corner above 20 mph? I learned to drive in a Kombi and corners ware not what they are made for.

A friend of ours who we get our VW parts from has a shortened Bus flatbed, and he said that he's stopped quickly a few times which resulted in tipping forward and the rear wheels coming off the ground a few inches!
David G. Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) Maybe he should put wheelie bars on the front, too! Also, from what I understand about the VW Bus and Bug designs, he put the scoops on backwards. The vents on the Bug and Buss are actually chimneys. As the car is driven, air moves past the vents creating a suction that draws the heat out of the engine compartment. The scoops should face the other way to be effective. Facing the way they are, they just ram the hot air back into the engine compartment. A Wolfsburg-trained Volksie mechanic told me that a long time ago and it makes sense, especially on the Bug. Harry P. Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 With that Nova... when you get in, where do you put your head???
David G. Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 With that Nova... when you get in, where do you put your head??? Maybe the seat is just a futon mat on the floor!
Jordan White Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I would think the rat rod I posted would be worse, since you're practically sitting on the ground and you have to try and see around both the engine and radiator!
Railfreak78 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Yeah I suppose that flat newer bus and the nova and the rat rod would make for a rather uncomfortable drive.
David G. Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 If so, I hope he has the futon securely attached to the floor! 3M Spray Adhesive! On the futon and the driver!
