Got my order from RMCoM and have been mocking up the engine...

Whaddya think of this? Makes some kind of statement, doesn't it?

P1070040-vi.jpg

Theres still a lot of tweaking to do. The rear carb needs to scoot back... Both carbs need to straighten up... The exhaust needs some heat persausion to clear the body and door swing... The top plate of the carb riser needs to be refined. After all that is taken care of, I'll start on the pulley placements. I'll need to fab a fuel pump (yeah I know now that RMCoM has one, but I'm not going to order one single part)

To paraphrase "X Files"... "Trust No One... and pin everything!" I do this so I can mock it up and everything goes back in the same place each time I reassemble it. Plus, past experience reminds me that rubber fan belts are notorious for pulling blowers off the block!

Enjoy... Comments always welcome!

looks a bit stretched to me, yu could put 4 more cylinders in tha space between tha front of tha engine and that radiator. I'd move tha engine backwards, bellhousing to engine flange shuld be flush with firewall front edge, otherwise yur gonna need a scale 3 footer for a shifter, I think....but then yu culd add another 4 cylinders....what's that make a V 16 Flattie?

Huh?!?!

I don't know why I should explain this, but here goes...

Its a hot rod, it is somewhat exaggerated!

Had you kept up with any of the pics I've posted previously, you'd know that what I'm doing is just fine! Of course, you may be able to build it better than me, so I suggest you show me your building skills. Please use a spellchecker when you post your results, so I don't have to decipher "Good Old Boy" typing.

Thanks for your input.

Patience and tolerance...patience and tolerance...

The car looks good so far. Every time I see the hot rods you guys are putting together, I feel like cracking open a kit and trying my hand at it. Then I see the end result of your efforts and crawl into a corner, curl into a fetal position and sob uncontrollably.

So, for now at least, I'll remain an very interested observer...finish some other projects, and then muster the courage to "get my hot rod on"...

Henry,

Back in the old days, most street rodders modified stock cars up to go faster, either for drag racing or top speed runs like on a dry lake bed.

One of the modifications was a stretched frame in order to gain stability when going FAST!

Very few street cars back in the day were actually modified this way but this is a common theme now with the Nostalgia/Rat/Retro type of rod. Steve is only stretching his imagination with a very intresting creation where driver comfort and ease of operation comes in second to acheaving an overall look.

I like where he is going with it, keep us updated Steve.

Ken, Its going to be the color you see on the brake drums, Key Lime. Just don't know yet if its going to be shiny or flat.

Peterson, uncurl and dive in! One of the reasons I like hot rods is that its hard to get it wrong (although I don't build too many)! I always feel the same way when I see shiny exotics, race cars, etc... just want to forget I ever thought about building one!

Thanks, Guys.

Steve, my friend Rich built such a real rod, a `31 chopped sedan, that was stretched right where you have it 12".

Now that was a real rod, driven on real roads, so let's be real

Rods are what Steve says: nothing can be wrong.

However, we can all have our opinions, and that's what makes life interesting.

Constructive criticizm (Sorry, Steve, had to do that one) is good, as long as it is just that, constructive.

No let's go catch a wave.......

Steve...give up,it's hopeless. that build will never work..best thing to do is put it in a box and I'll take it off of your hands on Thurs. :D:lol: ....B

Wait!

Brian, you're being too generous and selfless! Let ME take it off his hands. Everybody sees this thing is just a mess. Best thing to do is send it to ME instead. That way, I can finish it exactly the way Steve was planning, and nobody will think it unusual, what with me being a little wierd anyway. It's best for everybody, to do it my way.

I'm just trying to be there for you guys...

As soon as I get a digital camera, I will put some pics up. Currently all I have is a Canon 35 mm Sureshot 80u which is not worth a tinker's darn any closer than 6-7 ft, having nevah taken pictures of any models ever. Heck someone even had to explain how to use a website photo file storage site to me...Billy Kingsley (and thanks for his patience).

As to tha stretched part, I thought that tha radiator was going to be ina more traditional location, closer to tha front wheels (which woulda made for a very loong hood) ifn yu were gonna put a hood on it.

Don' like my Flawduh accent eh, sorry bout that, they tried to correct it thru 3 college degrees, guess I'm just stubborn. I had a part in building a T bucket rod with a Ford 312 once back in '64/65, but it had a lot shorter frame. Guess I'm just used to shorter frames.

I wasn't trying to be critical, t'was just my sense of proportions, which with 10 cents still won't buy yu a cup o' java.

Looks cool man, I have been to a lot of Hot-Rod shows and believe you me, that is not exxagerated! I think is a winner!

I see I forgot sumthing...a puffed flatie is kinda neat. Are those supposed to be 1 or 2 bbl Strombergs, I can't tell? and did yu scratch tha carb to puffer tubes Steve?

Posted

Knowing what RMCoM's 1bbl Strombergs look like (tiny), I'd guess these were meant to be 2bbl (who knows, really!) Yeah, the riser is another scratchbuilt piece, to create space for both carbs.

way cool in my book, loving the s.c.o.t. flattie I've been on a 32 kick with this year being the 75th of the Deuce, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this build.

Keep up the great work, i've got a 32 i'm in early stages of and I'll post it here when I get some headway on it

Steve, I'm the newly elected VP of the model club Peterson is a member of, so I'll see what I can do to get him cracking on a hot rod build! Your '32 looks way cool just as it is, and thank you for telling it like it is, I love it! :D
