Here's my opinion, I really don't care if you want it or not, your still getting it,

I've seen many great places go down hill by changing things that should never have been changed, if it were me, I'd leave it the hell alone, That's my opinion and it's not changing.

Posted

Yeah, and I've seen a lot of places go straight into the toilet by stubbornly refusing to change and adapt with the times, or to even acknowledge that there just might possibly be a NEED for change. So what's your point?

BTW, I respect your opinion, Nick, but your attitude could definitely use some work ... B)

Ken I also respect your opinion's but lately I've been getting to much grief from members here and I'm tired of it, so now I'm going to give them the same respect they've given me, none.

I don't think I have ever disrespected you in any way, Nick, nor have I ever given you any grief. In fact, I don't think you and I have ever interacted in any way prior to now.

I can't say that I agree with your statement about other members giving you grief, because, quite honestly, I haven't paid close enough attention to know whether that's true or not. However, I will submit this for your consideration ... respect is a two-way street. You have to give it in order to get it.

And that's all I have to say on the matter ...

I have always evenly respected the people here but after I screwed in a trade, and they deceided it was my fault and bashed me I deceided that was it, and I will only give respect to the people who deserve it now on, now you deserve respect Ken.

OK ... here's my suggestion, FWIW ...

1. The current "General" section is renamed "General: Modeling ONLY."

2. A new subsection entitled "General: O/T Discussion" is created.

3. The same rules apply to that section that apply to the rest of the board: No religion. No politics. No swearing. No name-calling. No forbidden content of ANY kind, and normal rules of civility apply at all times.

4. A first violation of those rules results in a warning; the second a one-month suspension of the offender's posting privileges and a third permanent banishment. Three strikes and you're history, in other words.

5. Participants also are warned that if the discussions become too "boisterous," in the view of the moderators and/or Gregg, the O/T section will be closed permanently.

Just an idea ...

This is actually what I thought Pat was suggesting. I disagree (that would be agreeing with you) that there are enough subcategories to cover all other modeling, in fact only drag racers, Nascar and heavy trucks have their own forums.

Personally I like it that way one of the issues you run into when everything has its own little place is people don't see everything, and some of those forums get mighty slow.

Lets say for example Sandblaster is building a dune buggy and he is looking for some help finding a good wiring harness since that exposed motor will really stand out, but since he asks in the dunebuggy forum and neither of the other 2 occasional posters knows the answer he is out of luck. Over in the rear engine aircooled 2 wheel drive foriegn autos forum Dr Porsche not only knows where you can get such an item he actually makes and sells custom wiring harnesses for air cooled motors, unfortunately he didn't see the post since it was "over there". Meanwhile Billy Bob is building a Corvair dragster and would love to get one of Dr Porsche's wiring harnesses, but unfortunately he only hangs out in the rear engine air cooled 2 wheel drive US auto racing forum. :(

Had he asked in a "general modeling" forum, Sandblaster would have found what he needed, Billybob would have an item he didn't even think to ask about and Dr Porsche got two more sales.

Also regarding the bicycle post, it began as a post wondering if someone knew of a good bicycle forum. It grew because apparently many of the members here found bicycles interesting. That sounds like a perfect post for a non-modelling forum.

What ever you guys decide to do I'll support the model community. I say this again though, Having general chit chat is a good thing. I saw a comment about that the people that do a lot of chit chat bring the least to the table. I personally have a lot of topics on the work bench and some under glass. I saw something about PMs. Personally when I come home from work I go strait on here because I look forward to models AND communication with the great people here. I saw about people should go to a forum about the topic that might be in the general section. I personally don't like going to forum after forum. Hmm.. This me me me could be a topic in general. I also read that the model related tips get burried in the general section... I thought thats what the Tips catagory was for. I read a statement about Facebook. I posted a Facebook topic to no avail so where do you go from there? Any way split, keep it, delete it. I like the forum and won't leave anyway. That was my me me me rant I guess and now off to click on the threads I want to read in any catagory I choose.

Isn't "General" already pretty self-explanatory? "General" topics.

I don't see any reason to divide "General" into "General Model Stuff" and "General General Stuff."

If anyone doesn't want to read anything in this section, or is bothered by non-model specific topics, why are they looking through the "General" category in the first place???

It's like the people who watch sex and violence on TV all day and then complain about all the sex and violence they see on TV.

If someone is offended by or uninterested in "general" stuff, the solution is very simple: don't read it!

I totally agree with Harry here !!!!

No O/T stuff, period. I mean, 1:1 car stuff is fine, especially if it somehow relates to models, i.e., reference photos, but the other garbage has no place here, IMO. A lot of us gravitated to this forum because of the way O/T nonsense has taken over a certain "other" board to the point where it's difficult to even find the model-related posts.

Plus, there's the potential for drama that O/T posting brings. Remember when people were allowed to post political rants here? How'd that work out, hmmm?

I agree as well and voted no. What I WOULD like to see is a are for builds other than wheeled builds. I know, it's "Model Cars" Forum. Fine. We sthat build other subjects would still like to share them here. It's not a crime ya know.

It's REAL SIMPLE............... If you don't like a topic DONT READ IT

But no you'd rather have the entire board changed for everybody just to suit your finicky preference? DEAL WITH IT.

BTW i'm just bein sarcastic  . I could honestly care less either way. I voted for Ice Cream but even then wish it was Mint Chocolate Chip.

Well. That's it then, it's settled. We only need one section. The "If you don't like it, don't read it!" section. :)

That way, everything fits under one easy-to-use category.

ok this may sound dumb but is there a reason why we are attacking one other??? all the time i mean guys this is crazy joking around is one thing but putting people down there's no call for that. Am i wrong??? or right? this was a simple post about if harry or who ever? should divide the general section into two parts to me it was a simple question. :)

I like things the way they are. The general section to me is like walking into an informal gathering where we can express some of the things affecting our personal lives. Sometimes circumstances have a direct impact on what subjects to build, or, in my case, why I've been nearly dormant for the past two years. It allows me get to know everybody and some of their quirkiness. If I find a post uninteresting, I just ignore it and go on to something else. As long as there's no flame wars, politics, religion, racism or inappropriate or ignorant posts, I'm relatively happy :D (is that not the smile of a happy guy?).

My two cents: Don't care either way, as long as mildly off-topic posts are still allowed. All the other forums I go to have off-topic sections (forum for the Gran Turismo series has a section for tv/movies, music, etc.) I actually enjoy seeing what people here have to say on non-model car related topics, and think that it would be too cumbersome and, well, lame to take it to PMs. But hey, if there is another section created, then I have one more section that I get to read! :P

*The above does not regard politics/religion* :D

You win, too. :D

We can go one of 3 ways:

A. No off-topic posts, period (let's call this the Ken solution)... :P

B. Create a specific area only for off topic posts.

C. Limit any off-topic posts to a designated area (General Topics).

Solution A accommodates one certain group of members and alienates another group.

Solution B (which I think is what Pat is driving at) is unnecessary, IMO, as we already have a spot for "other" posts (General Topics).

Solution C accommodates everyone. Or in other words, leave things as they are!

My 2¢, for what it's worth.

But I'll be happy to go with whatever the majority wants.

You win and I have said this for YEARS! If you have an off topic section you can deselect the parameters so when somebody new clicks on the "View New Content" the Off topic stuff does not come up. If someone wants to read and write an off topic post they will know where to look.

Easy and simple.
