In a Rockford's Files episode, one of the thugs can actually be seen working on a model car, an AMT 'Snakebite'. He has an array of built models on a shelf next to his work bench. Since these old series were often filmed 'on location' in the homes of the film crew members, this may well have been the personal collection of this actor.

For years I did 'kit spotting' when watching the Gerry Anderson 'Superanimation' stuff.

I'll have to look through the season's and see if I can find that, if I do I'll post it here.

In the movie 'I'll Be Home For Christmas' with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, there are a few model cars in the background shadows in his room at home. I know, I built them. 6 model cars, 15 hours of work for a 1/2 second background shot

Why did I do it? They paid me  Cash and plastic :)

The one I love is a commercial for I think Goodyear, where a guy on a fishing vessel is building up a model 'Vette, and has to run to the bridge. He sets it on the desk, and when the boat goes up a wave, everything slides off except the model, due to the tires.

Could be. I couldn't remember if they were Goodyear Polyglas or Firestone Wide O Oval. Now that I think about it, the latter sounds more familiar.

That commercial is for Firestone, it's a red (appears to be AMT) 72ish Corvette convertible with Firestone Wide Ovals.

Here's one I bet no one will remember! The 1991 TV movie "Knight Rider 2000", there was a model of the new KITT sitting on the desk! I'm not sure if it was this AMT model or not,

but you can (barely) see it in the lower right hand corner of this screen shot, I have the movie downloaded in my computer!

In the Law & Order series with Vincent D'Onofrio the boss has diecasts in his office in some episodes.

I think it was "Joan of Arcadia" where part of one episode was filmed at Burbank's House of Hobbies.

In an episode of Maclom In The Middle, Dewey builds a model of the USS Constitution.

Adding in on the TV shows, "Mythbusters" used an Italeri truck and trailer, not sure of which ones, I think it was a Ford Aeromax tractor and either the 40 foot container or US cargo trailer, and a Revell 1987 Ford Thunderbird and the "Big Rig Drafting" myth small scale tests.

In the movie "The Butterfly Effect", one of the kids who was mentally affected by the disturbing little goings-on of the movie is in his room building model airplanes.

I also just remembered an episode of Criminal Minds in which the killer had a large collection of model cars.

Yeah, and don't forget CSI (Las Vagas) where one season the reoccurring storyline was the "Miniature Killer" who build the dioramas of his murder crime scenes.

"Mr. Destiny" is loaded with model car references. Belushi's character builds models. In one scene, after his life is transformed into that of a rich guy, he's working on gullwing Mercedes and his hot new wife (Rene Russo) informs him he has a real one in the garage. He tells her he likes "the smaller ones better," or words to that effect. After his life is transformed back to normal, he receives the AMT Prestige gullwing Mercedes kit as a gift.

I remember, too, that Roy Sorenson did an article in Plastic Fanatic about how he built several models for the movie, only to have them wind up not being used.

Oh, yeah ... there's a "Simpsons" episode where Homer and Bart are shown working on a model together. When they finish, it's a half-airplane, half-ship. Bart opines that they need to coordinate better!

That episode was on not but a half hour ago Ken, I laughed quite a bit at that.

Yes, the actor that played Assistant Director Skinner on X-Files. He has many, many, diecast models, and picks one of them up on that episode of Criminal Minds!I was drooling, I only have about 1/20th of the amount that was displayed.
