Jairus Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 HA HA HA, yes Nick there are a few of us out there. Mine started out as a dumb hobby. My dad was gona pitch a player and some tapes that had broken. That was when I was about 6 years old. I'm now 30, collect and restore carts and there players. Weird how things turn out. Repair? You know about 8-track heaven then? :-) What is the secret for opening the RCA rivet cart then - hmmmmmmm? (easiest one there is to open actually)

Guest Mustang3.8 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 My handle is Rusty Nail. I chose it because I really like the Joy Ride movies. I have a Midland from 1978 I need to install in my car. I just need the wires and an antenna.
RodneyBad Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Back in the 80s as I rolled around in my 69 GTX that was Corvette Yellow with a 8ft Whip standing tall off of the Rear Bumper. (I gotta find those pics one day, First car and all ) Later replaced with a DOH Trunk Mount Antenna. A 40 channel Realistic (Radio Shack) CB hanging under the Dash. Drum Roll.............. Mellow Yellow. I also had a Realistic am/fm Cassette, a 7 band EQ in dash and a 8-Track under the Dash with the CB mounted right under it... Gotta Love the 80's

Railfreak78 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I grew up around CBs. My dad is a trucker and when I was a kid it was still popular here in Phoenix. My parents still use them in truck (obviously) and base and some friends too. I have 2 cbs and I need an antenna to get it going in my car. I think I have a couple short fire sticks. Anyway as a little kid aroung 8 or so I named myself "Leader One" Lets see who gets the show that came from? When I hit 17 I had 3 cars and the only one with a cb was my 77 Towncar and the cb fad had died. Channel 3 had a lot going but one jerk had a very powerful base and ran off any new guys. This sparked a war and he tracked me down to my work. The color of my car was a dark copper style almost metallic brown and he named me "Driftwood" as an insult. That backfired cause I spend so much time at the lakes and rivers that I was like hey nice that makes sense! That made him more mad. Then a friend took a Linear (?) and keyed up and blew his tv out. He never ran us off again. Now I keep Driftwood and actually like it. I hope to be back on cb soon and I'm going to get the old channel back that was great here. That was 7

weasel Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 i was 'jellyroll'... and, i had a 4 track in my '66 AH Sprite!!! [my 2nd car..] running thru Indian Hill with Jimi Hendrix blairing, ahhhh, the memories...
charlie8575 Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 When my friends and I caravan, my cousin has a couple of non-permanently mounted CBs and we put them in the cars, set it to Channel 2 or 3 and communicate back and forth. I'm considering mounting one permanently in my car before too much longer. I travel in enough places with no mobile phone reception that in case of trouble I can get in touch with somebody. As long as you have power to the transceiver, you're ready to rumble. Charlie Larkin

sweptline64 Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 well when i used to drive truck ( i drove a 95' freightliner full condo ) my handle was fire bear it was given to me by a native american friend of mine when i was 17 and the name just kind of stuck.
Nick Winter Posted April 24, 2010 Author Posted April 24, 2010 Actually "Gator" was the sequel to "White Lightning", & was the first movie directed by Burt. It did have Jerry Reed in it however, & he's listed as one of three composers for it in the credits list at All Movie Guide, along with Charles Bernstein & Bobby Goldsboro. "White Lightning" co-starred Bo Hopkins & Ned Beatty. It's music was by Charles Bernstein alone. I remember both movies well, as I saw both when they were released. "White Lightning" was released in 1973, "Gator" in 1976. Mark your right, I love those 2 movies, then again, I like Burt Reynolds movies.
Jon Cole Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Ohhh... the seventies. I can remember some of it I was driving a Ford Courier Pickup when I bought my first CB, thus the handle "Courier Kid"

Heck I started with records, Then went to 4 TRACKS, Then on to 8 Tracts AHH,... thoughs were the days !!! 38 Crush I missed out on 8-tracks and CB radios, though my older brother had them in his cars in the late '70s and early 80s. I started w/ cassettes in the mid '80s then moved to CDs in the late '80s...still remember as a teenager rolling around listening to CDs in my Mustangs on my Sony Discman plugged into the cassette deck. crispy Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) My dad was an avid fan of CB'ing in the day. He had a whole unit set up in the house and of course every car we owned had a unit. He was known as the "Featherman". When he passed in '83 I took that name over for him. He was so popular back then he had postcards made up of a mans face on a feather and would mail them to people he would talk to on the radio. So, Featherman is mine whenever I use a CB which isn't often these days. Chris Edited May 11, 2010 by crispy

Chris Very cool, My brother rolled my truck when I lent it to him last week, it's a mess, but even with the anntena broken I still get a signal, and some chatter, That really peaves me, not only is my rig (truck, not radio) a mess, but the anntenna was a week old, I bought a new one after I bent the old anntenna.
