2002p51 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Think you've got a tough scratch building project? How about a full size, 1:1 scale car all in clear plastic: Drew
Harry P. Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 That's amazing! Especially the "working" engine with oil circulating.
sjordan2 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Unbelievable, thanks. I hope the thermostat kept the engine temperature low
Wagoneer81 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 OK, now I am officially impressed!!! Wow, the model maker they interviewed said they made the car entirely from Perspex. We know it on this side of the pond as Plexiglass. That was very impressive and I hope the car was saved and preserved after the filming was completed. Thanks for sharing that, it made my day!
Art Anderson Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 In 1940, Pontiac had a 4dr Deluxe sedan bodied in Plexiglas as well, for display at the New York World's Fair. This was a complete running car, all the body structural steel parts were painted white, Goodyear made up special all white tires for it, on white wheels. The engine was painted up much like the display autoshow engines that were popular exhibits as well. The car still exists, at last count, it was in the collection of Harold Kleptz of Terre Haute IN, completely restored, and still driveable. Art
Foxer Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 (edited) That's brilliant for an oil company, showing what their product does INSIDE an engine. I wonder how many 3-grit sanding sticks they used polishing it? Edited April 29, 2010 by Foxer
Karmodeler2 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 THanks. Now I can't pick my nose cause the guy next to me will see me! David
diymirage Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 wow im perspexed i mean perplexed reminds me of an engine we had in highschool it had a glass cylinder on it so that when you turned a screw on the carb to change the air fuel ratio you could see the colour of the combustion change with it
charlie8575 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 At least detail painting isn't too much of a problem... Charlie Larkin
FASTBACK340 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Think you've got a tough scratch building project? How about a full size, 1:1 scale car all in clear plastic: Drew Being I work for Infiniti now and have also spent time at Nissan as a dealership technician, and all I can say is WOW! That 350Z looks incredible... they got a lot of it "right" reproducing it. Awesome link... I'll be forwarding that one around.
