Gregg Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 With all the recent infestations of malignant posts and threads on the forum, and the haters that went with it, I received some disturbing PM's on the treatment on "others" are getting on the forum, and why some people are treated different than others. I don't treat anyone special, well, except for myself, of course. I have a lot of patience with everyone, it's the basic island way of life. I do step in and cut the line, so to speak, when it is absolutely necessary. You can even see this in the content of the magazine. We do not have a heavy hand in the editing of the pieces that come in to MCM. Basically, what you see is what you get. I am not going to change someone's words around because of some obscure reason. I will edit for errors, and spelling mistakes, but that's about it. Same for the forum. You get the axe when you stir up trouble with EVERYONE. If you have an issue with someone, use the good ol' Iggy feature on the forum: IGNORE THEM. As for PM's and emails, no I don't respond to every single whine and complaint. I will look into something, and act accordingly. A lot of times I get the messages through the BlackBerry, and I make notes to follow up later. I work 110 hours a week (at least), and I don't have the luxury of being able to sit in front of the computer and babysit everyone. If you have a problem with someone, or something, we have moderators here who can address most, if not all issues. If there is something they think should be taken care of immediately, they will let me know. Okay, I pau. Back to watching reruns of Lucy
gbdolfans Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Hi Gregg, I agree 100% with you on this. You, Harry, and Pat do a great job on the magazine and on this forum. You will not see me post on ant inflaming threads.I enjoy building models and seeing other's builds.I love to browse here to get ideas and learn tips.I am sure my skill level is not up for posting pics due to health.but,I am getting better with what I learn here. I have a nice stash and probably not live long enough to build them all.Oh well. I really do appreciate all the work you do.It is the best forum on the net.I used to be a subscriber a while ago,and probably reup as the LHS that carried it closed(Model Mania).I just have to fit it in my budget. :D Thank you Gregg,Harry, and Pat for doing a tough job. Now,back to browsing and building. :D
Terry Sumner Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I agree Gregg and I know exactly what you, Harry and Pat go through. You see, I am a moderator on the Aircraft Resource Center forum. It's by far the largest modeling forum in existence I believe. Currently there are 14,269 registered members. On any given day there are around 500 - 1000 people online. The most ever online at one time was 3,199...all at once! We're now up to 1,320,000 plus posts. There are only 6 of us who moderate that forum and sometimes it's a fulltime job!!! I know what a thankless job it is most of the time so may I add my thanks to you guys for putting up with all the BS! LOL

If you have a problem with someone, or something, we have moderators here who can address most, if not all issues. If there is something they think should be taken care of immediately, they will let me know. And the 2 mods work very hard.....But Boss we need more and they need full power to stop the nonsense. Yes there a few members that are above the rules..no names, but it is quite obvious who they are As to your work load..thats waaaay to much cause there can't be much building time, much less time to moderate this site. If you get a few more mods and they all have specific areas to watch..less work for all involved and we can nip more drama earlier! Only then will this be the BEST forum in the world as it was a short time ago Okay, I Pau and I have bondo drying now.
Casey Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) And the 2 mods work very hard.....But Boss we need more and they need full power to stop the nonsense. I agree. I think the recent "harryh8r" posts are a clear example of why the ability to ban abusive users would be very handy for moderators, and in that case, would've been particularly effective at cutting said poster off for good. Rick Schmidt Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Gregg, You Harry an Pat are doing a Fine job. What needs to be done tho is We members just need to act like the grown folks ( or almost grown ) we are. If we were to act grown and ignore any trouble that did arise from some or better yet not start it all together. It would make it more enjoyable for everyone Including the Admin and mods Who would now have more time to enjoy the forum too. Can't we do that folks ?? Let's all of us act like grown folks should here.
MikeeD Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I may be just a new guy here, but I have to agree with you Greg. I was under the impression we were all adults here, all enjoying this tremendous hobby of ours to the best of our ability. I barely have enough time to build anything, let alone whine or complain about someone else. Without intending to offend anyone, if any of you have a problem...grow up and deal with it in an adult manner, get over it, and move on with your build! Is that so tough? I think you guys are doing a great job on this site, keep it up!
Junkman Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Well, it was end of the tax year and full moon after all...
Ken Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Terry, you guys need to let Dan's Monkey take over a bit more. I miss the banana beer fueled fun! Maybe you can contract him out to Gregg to help with the moderating.
cruz Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Hey Gregg, I see that you have acquired Ricky Ricardo's patience by watching those Lucy reruns, perhaps that's what everyone here needs to do!!
Harry P. Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Hey Gregg, I see that you have acquired Ricky Ricardo's patience by watching those Lucy reruns... Ricky Ricardo's patience??? Don't you remember his most famous line? "Luuuuuuucy.... you got some 'splainin to do!"
