Alyn Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I looked all over, and finally found PlastiKote primer at O'Reilly Auto Parts. They have three stores in Yuma Az. Check their on-line store locator. T235 Gray
charlie8575 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Plasti-Kote is usually sold at CarQuest stores, and sometimes, NAPA. Independent stores may carry it as well, but that's up to the owner. Michael's carries Valspar lacquer primer, which is very, very similar, and works quite well. It's a little thinner than Plasti-Kote, which I like, and is less money, which I really like. my80malibu Posted May 1, 2010 Author Posted May 1, 2010 I tried some of the Valspar brand, Partially because I liked the price. it did however cause some crazing. On the model that I used it on, which was the new Revell 57 chevy. On some other parts I used it on they turned out OK. Also it takes a long time to dry completely.3 days for a laquer based product that is way too long.

It was being sold as Plasti-Kote at Michael's, too, before it was discontinued from the line, but from what I've observed, it's all a slightly thinner version of the gray sandable primer T235. I may do a little more experimenting and see what happens. Charlie Larkin
PatRedmond Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 PLASTIKOTE PRIMER LINK I get it at Car Quest. They're right across the street
58 Impala Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I just went to their website, has anyone tried their plastic primer?
PatRedmond Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 No. I like the Sandable T-Series just fine. On 5/1/2010 at 12:17 PM, 58 Impala said: I just went to their website, has anyone tried their plastic primer?
gbdolfans Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) I see that several of you use the gray primer. Why do you use gray instead of white, for a cleaner color.Do you tone down the top coat with the gray? Edited May 1, 2010 by gbdolfans
David G. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Lately, I've beed using Rust-Oleum sandable automobile primer. Of the three places I've seen it, Auto Zone, Pep Boys and Home Depot, it's cheapest at Home Depot.
PatRedmond Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I use the gray as base coat....I use Tamiya white primer on top of the gray for the final sanding coat/ finish primer coat. PatRedmond Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Your gray will show through the white showing any sanding issues that need to be addressed. On 5/1/2010 at 1:23 PM, gbdolfans said: Thanks Pat, That makes great sense to me.
MikeMc Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I stopped using plasticote and switched to duplacolor. Simple choice...much easier to obtain, duplicolor comes in sandable, filler/primer, and sealer primer. I top coat with HOK BC26 white as my base....my loyality to plasticote left as availability dropped, and the price is almost 2x of duplicolor. As I prefer HOK and duplacolor , and the TS series from Tamiya, the duplacolor works great!!
Alyn Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Hopefully, I didn't lead anyone astray. I double checked and found that CarQuest was the store where mine came from as well.
