1320wayne Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Since we have recently talked about contest formats and judging styles now I would love to know what everyone's opinions are regarding the best time of the year for a show? Does it matter to you either way whether or not it's early or late in the year or simply placed mid year? What types of issues would prevent you from attending a show at certain times of the year. Is the Summertime bad because the kids are out of school? I would love to know peoples feelings on this matter. Thanks!
peter31a Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Hey Wayne! That's an interesting question. We have people in our club that insist that no one builds in the summer. They say our show should be moved from fall into a spring slot so that we're getting fresh builds as everyone builds in winter and not in summer. They think we get retreads from everyone else's spring contests because no one builds in the summer. I think it's all a crock but I'll be interested to see what kind of responses you get here. By the way it doesn't matter to me but in this neck of the woods winter shows are dicey due to weather.
Nick Winter Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 November, My birth month, that way who ever takes me there, I can say while in the swapmeet, that would be a good gift for my birthday, but seriously, a weekend in the summer, most people are off work, and the turn out would be good.
MikeMc Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 (edited) where I live its sooooo hot in the summer all we do is sit INSIDE with the a/c chillin...and buildin..don't go out much till November when it cools off ...... Just the opposite when I was in WI Edited May 3, 2010 by MikeMc
Modelmartin Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Obviously it depends on what area of the country you are in. Spring and fall are the nost popular but I have gone to shows all over in all seasons. Doesn't matter to me except I hate going to the desert or the south in July or August. I see IPMS Nats are in Phoenix in August this year! Oy! And I would hate to forget my passport and birth certificate going there!!

Jeff Sauber Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I prefer early spring or fall.. Winter issues can make traveling around hard, and summer can be too hot, especially considering a good number of shows I have been to have not had AC at the venues..
charlie8575 Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Late fall and early srping are good. It's too crummy to work outside on the house and all the 1:1 cars are still hibernating. Charlie Larkin

As long as you don't break any laws here you'll be okay, if you do plan on speeding you will need your drivers license. Sales at shows are always better at the spring events. AzTom
Zoom Zoom Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 The best shows seem to be in the spring and the fall. Some in the summer. Winter can be hazardous. That said, if you are planning a show, make sure you don't plan one that overlaps another on the same weekend. If you are trying to make a big show, this is especially important.

Ramcharger Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Mid to late spring or fall. The weather is too unpredictable in the early spring and summer is out because people would rather do things outside. As far as people not building in the summer, that's 50/50. Some people can't paint in the winter because they have to spray outside, others model during the winter to fill the long cold months until they can get outside. If you're worried about "debut" models, most people save them for the "big" contests and NNLs anyway. I've seen lots of new stuff at the Toledo NNL and it's in the fall. Just my 2 cents.
Jairus Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) If you like magazine coverage, make it the week before or the week after an established show. That way you can entertain Gregg for 5 days and he will be there to take pictures for both shows! (Hi Wayne... missing you buddy!) Edited May 4, 2010 by Jairus
