Just wanted to say goodbye for a few months to all my friends on here, as I leave monday evening for a relaxing (yeah, right!!) 9 weeks @ Ft.Jackson, SC, followed up with additional 5 weeks of fun in the sun @ Ft. Sill, OK for US Army basic training... I should be all finished and headed to my unit sometime in late september after a quick leave following all the schooling. So I hope everyone is safe, and keeps the arguments down so this place doesnt implode while i'm gone...

Good luck, and remember; the training is all a mind game. They will erase your current ideas about what your limits are. No matter what you do or where you serve, you will always be a veteran. You would be surprised at how many are out there and how they will help out their brothers. I do what I can by giving veterans a price break in my job as a plumber.

Be safe. Always remain vigilant when deployed. There will be time to relax when you get back in the states.

Thank you.

Interesting itinerary, as mine was the same nearly 43 years ago! Was a war going on back then too, but being with Pershing Missile kept me safe. I wish you all the best.

Congratulations, as a veteran myself I can say without doubt you are about to start a life changing journey. Good luck, stay safe and thank you for carrying on a fine tradition.

Thank you and good luck! So are you gonna finish all those projects before monday or do those get moved down to stalled projects?

James, thank you son for having a pair and serving our country, in spite of the CIC. I salute you young man! What unit are you going to serve with, and what job will you have? My best to you.

Not sure which unit yet (I'll find out in OK), but I'm going into Field Artillery (hoping to crew an M109 Paladin mechanized artillery weapon)

Good luck, and Godspeed! Thirty years ago, I went through a similar journey, albeit at Ft. Dix and Ft. Belvoir. I spent twelve years in the Army Reserves, and am proud to have served. You will only get out of it what you put into it; it can prove to be the best experience you'll ever have if you have the right attitude. Be safe, and heartfelt Thanks for your service!

James,

Be safe and follow the advice others here have given. Ft. Jackson is not a bad place, unless we get some hot weather, but then again you are from Las Vegas! There is a thing called humidity here that will make 85 degrees here feel warmer than 105 in LV, but you will get used to it.

My son is 16 and in the JROTC program at high school and will probably be in the military within 3 years. He gets to go to Camp Lejeune this summer for 1 week of boot camp so he can get a taste of life as a Marine and I think it will make him appreciate life a lot more.

Best of luck, take care and keep your head down!

Thank you for your service.

Good luck. Was out there in the early 80's about the same time. Some classes are at night due to the heat.

Good luck, Godspeed and God Bless! Thank you for your service, James. I particularly respect what you are doing and the point in your life that you are doing it. Be safe.
