Ok bro i was looking at you pontiac thread in the under glass section and it looks good to me. It does need work still but hey no big deal put it away and when you get better then pull it out and rebuild it.But getting back on topic bro i seen alot of disrespect done by you and to you bro on that topic. But the idea of telling the experianced guys to go F themselves will bite you in the future. Im not doing this to blast you bro in fact im doing this for you and others that are on the path you are. I'm not the most liked here at all. Im known as being a loud mouth pain in the butt. But i will now tell you and others like that to change your ways bro. A tip that worked for me is to take a break for a while like i did. But during that break hone in on what you like to do. Read up on how to do body work, grab a old fender off a 1:1 and a can of bondo/accelerator and go to town. I have been practicing automotie body work off and on for around two years now and i still have problems. I know your only 14 now but when you get working on a build up take some pride in your work and NEVER EVER rush bodywork. If you do then the paint will be your enemy not your friend. But take advice from the people on here bro even if they sound like they are kicking your kidneys. They mean good by what they say bro.

Note: i ask those who are planning to post here to keep it civil and don't get this blocked thank you.

Now i step off the podeium and return to my workbench thank you for your time

Evilone, I think by starting this thread, maybe you should consider a new screenname! It looks like you may have a soft spot!;) Seriously, though, I'm happy to see that most members here, including me, can see Nick's improvment he has shown in some of his later builds, and believe the thread Mark Taylor is doing on basic construction will help Nick even more. The members whom I have seen bashing his work need to learn the fine art of constructive critisism, not the bashing critisism they give him. I have, in Nick's threads and in PMs, have praised Nick for the improvement in his builds. Nick shows passion for building, and that is rare for teenagers these days. I don't see many other teenagers posting here like he is, most are probably too busy with their video games. I feel as Nick grows, his builds will grow with him, and when he has the experience others here have, I feel his builds will be among some of the finest here! The passion that I have seen Nick have for his builds now, that will also grow with him, and I would not be surprised if we see some of his builds in the magazine in the future. I have been modeling for over 20 years, and I know it has taken much work and passion, not to mention guts in the case of my current project where I'm trying things I have never done before, to reach my current level of building. I know at his age, I was far from a great builder, I still do not consider myself a great or pro builder, but it is what I enjoy. I did not even know about seam lines, sink marks, etc., and did not know about them until I joined the now extinct Ohio Valley Scale Modelers club. I was about Nick's age when I joined, and the membership offered me much constructive critisism, which I absorbed like a sponge. By the time I was 16, I was building and winning in the Senior (or teen, whatever classification you wish to use for the 13-adult group) classes, I even won a best in division trophy once. I now consider this forum my "model club", and as such, feel it is only right to help younger builders the way the members of O.V.S.M. helped me become a better builder. The club motto of O.V.S.M. was "We Stick Together", and, even though through members lives outside modeling ultimately led to declines in membership and meeting attendance, we did always stick together to help each other. I'm happy to see there are members here committed to helping Nick improve, and the old O.V.S.M. motto is alive and well! To all the members here who feel they have to bash Nick's work and progress, I say this on behalf of all the members who are encouraging Nick to do better and are seeing his improving skills, "WE STICK TOGETHER"!!!!

P.S.: Sorry for the long winded post, but I feel as much passion in seeing Nick improve as he does for his builds!

I just saw this thread and went and read over the other, now locked, thread. The best that I can say is that not many of the posters ended up in their best light.

Well, I beleieve we all do want Nick to improve (otherwise there wouldn't have been such adament posts and heavily charged polarity on his building ability). I had hoped that by posting pics of my Duster and explaining what the pic was trying to show that it in some way would help him to understand the point being made. In some of his build in which he took a little more time, they look real good. You can tell that others were rushed. He does have passion and ability; focusing and honing both will make him a force to be reckoned with later in his building career.

;) This is exactly why I have Nick blocked. I got tired of this same thing over and over again. He doesn't understand the concept of constructive critism. He needs to spend less time on the internet and more time refining his skills.

I think Nick's modeling is starting to show some talent, as he has

shown on some of his previous builds.

I say let's just try to help him on some things and let him show us

what he has to offer in time.

His models will show the effects with some killer builds.

I just say PATIENCE is the word IMO, as we all started somewhere

and improved as time and models went on...

Qoute from Mark Taylor: "Those that are quick to defend Nick probably don't realize that over time Nick tends to lash out at anyone/anything he doesn't like and has done so in many threads, not just a few." ......"There are other posters that take that bait and argue with him at every turn"

I know I am one of "Those" in the first quote, but I was trying making my point on your second quote, mainly for the "adults" on here.......KUDOS to evilone!!!!,very well put indeed!

Can I say something here, I assume you have said yes,

I enjoy constructive critisism, but some of you give me too much at one time, ok, tell me or 2 things to do for the next time, don't give me a 5000 word list of what I should do, I'm only one guy, and this is my hobby, nothing else, Just a hobby.

Like me or Hate me I really don't care.

Nick, all I've got to say say on the subject is that you are a better builder at 15 than I was. It took me many years to figure out that slow and steady to win the race. After reading the posts in the Pontiac thread I've realized two things. 1. Some people have forgotten what it is to be 15 and don't remember how their mind works (that isn't a bash btw). 2. It is near impossible to translate intent and mood in a text based forum. Things that are meant as helpful critique end up as harassment and a joke ends up hurting feelings.

Be cool.

@ Jantrix- Very well said. Im a few years off from being 15...and most of us only wish we were 15...remember how much we knew back then(no insult intended). Im not that grewat of a builder and I have not checked out his art(yet).

@ dukefan...Dont know ya bro but just some friendly advice beins this is a forum its easier to get away with something the worse is getting baned. Out there as im well sure you handle things a little different someone may not take it the way you intend and start a fight or worse. Best advice given to me is Speak when spoken too(unless you have a question) Dont bite the hand that feeds you in other words "when you bite the person for giving too much info at once, they will stop helping you as well as others, then your left alone to build.

Nick,

Kevin is trying to tell you what he learned the hard way. All of us want to see this forum and hobby thrive and we must be willing to accept some praise and criticism.

Two things to remember:

1. An email or post is a one-way conversation that can be hard to understand at times. Take a breath, read and re-read a post before hitting reply.

2. Concentrate on your building and the critics will look for someone else to pick on.

Hang in there, the skills will come with time and practice.

Nick, one last comment and I'm moving on . Please take the time to revue and pay attention to what Mark Taylor had to say . I think what he said was way well said and well thought out . Now you know that in the past every time yopu have asked for my help , Ive bent over backwards to do for ya . Ed Shaver

I'm just gonna leave a quick comment here.

I've seen Nick improving since I have joined here. When Nicks camera died, and the time he got the new one, I think his builds have improved GREATLY!! I know alot of people try to help, but let me tell ya, some days your sick n tired of other "rude" comments, that ya have no paitents anymore, and other times some comments are unexceptable, some people wanna help, that is great, but other people just want to stir the pot.

I'm 15 so me and Nick are pretty much in the same situation, still learning, but haven fun doing it.

Nick HAS been improving by quite a bit, and I'll say that he's a better builder at his age now than I was when I was 20. Sheez- I've been building models for 22 years (since the ripe old age of six) and I'm improving and learning new stuff constantly. Imagine where Nick will be when he's 28, if he keeps up his current pace and pushes himself go get just a little bit better with every build!

You've become a bit of a lightning rod because it's so hard for you to not strike back when you feel cornered, but it's just causing you way more grief that way.

I think you just found the cause of all this. striking back when one feel threatened is human nature.

It is a two way street, you all have just as much ability to let it go, (if not more, because your adults) as he does.

I want to add something.

Recently there was a similar situation on another forum.

A young man was getting defensive and out of hand when receiving so called "constructive criticism". A lot of people tried to help him, and he lashed out at them out of frustration. Many of these people held a grudge against him, taking it on them selves to pick every build he posted apart. This caused him to grow more and more aggressive, Until he came out and started telling everybody to F off and using several other profanities I can't write here.

This resulted in him being banned.

I'ld hate to see this happen here. I think several of you are taking it apon yourselves to Pressure Nick into building his stuff how you see fit. He is young and needs to be let "develop" at his own rate.

Hey bro glad to see that you seen the topic and replied. The last line you put i used myself bro and it never helped me at all infact it caused many more people to think i was bad and up to no good.My suggestion is simply put don't sweat the small stuff bro. Those who are out to make you mad will succeed if you let them.Plus if you sweat the small things you'll get stressed out fast which leads you to get burnt out from building.I personally don't want to see that.now hopefully this topic not only changes your out look on people giving you ideas but also changes the people that are giving you the ideas.Hopefully they will remembe how it was when they were 15 and change there ways on approching the younger builders on giving them ideas B) .

Lead came up with a cool idea. The sad part is that age caught up with most of my early builds so they a R.I.P .But i found one that i finished about 5 years ago that shows some of my early talents.

This started the lowrider craze with me.

I love this build to this very day.It took me over a year to build it and around 5 paint jobs later. It has some body work in it due to all the stippings as well as very little details. But this was me five years ago there are alot of things i could as well as everyone else could pick apart on it but it never changed how proud i was and still am of it.

this was finished late last year.

You can see the evidence of my evolution in my building style between this one and the 58.I daired myself to make it look clean as possable and get some trophies with it.The last part never happened but i really don't care about that.I am a cadillac fan and take my pride in my cadillacs. But for the most part im using this as a teaching aid.

This shows my whole preaching of take your time. The original idea was to do a drop top caddy but i forgot to add stuff to the body so i went with the roadster look. The top took me 4 days to plan and 3 hours to cut.The reason i took so long was to get it where i didn't have to do alot of body work to it to cover the stray cuts or the low spots. The lace took 2 1/2 hours to lay down after i staired at the body for a hour to find where i wanted it to be.The lines on the sides were done in a 1/2 hour.As you see this is far from done but it is constantly being worked on every day. This is a prime example of time is money and i already have people willing to buy it as it sits right now but like all my other builds the answer is no i like them way too much to let them go.

With practice bro you will be in the boat of details and building levels as this soon.Heck you'll probably exceed these levels easily. But don't rush it bro if you rush anything you'll live to regret it in the future. If you need any help just pm me there wont ever be a pm i won't answer ;) .
