hellonwheelz3 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 OK, before I ask the question, Ya'll are gonna think I am a MAJOR GEEK for even thinking about this. Well guess what...your right!!! OK here's my question. Does anyone know of a 1972 AMC gremlin model? My girlfriend's cousin used to drive one back in the good ole days and she would like a replica done.
Railfreak78 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I don't know who makes them but they are out there. The only current one I know about is a modified race car but Ebay has regular ones and if your patient you wont have to pay for the high priced ones
Nick Winter Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Not sure of the year but lindberg makes one, I still haven't bought mine too, ok fine call me a geek, but it's getting a 440 Big Block
Railfreak78 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I just found this one on Ebay right now for $14.50 . Don't worry I'm a geek too I actually want a real Gremlin! There are more than these but you have to dig for them.
Longbox55 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 IIRC, the Lindberg kit is 1/20 scale, not 1/24-1/25.
iBorg Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 The Lindberg kit is a lump..... AMT made a reasonable annual kit. Mike

Corvette.Jeff Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 something more geeky than a gremlin? the pacer!!! my aunt has a 72' pacerX,yes,i have thought about telling her to put a liquorice dispenser in it
Casey Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Avoid the Lindberg kit at all costs- it's a total turd. The AMT Gremlin kits are your best bet if you want to build a stock type Gremmy. I'm not that up on AMT's Gremmy kits, but I;d love to see Round2 sneak a Grmlin into their lineup next year. Also, the Gremilin is far from nerd material. It's funky looking, but there's nothing uncool about liking them.
Jim Gibbons Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I wish there were a good Gremlin kit. I had a '71 in that funky persimmon color; kind a lavenderish blue. I eventually painted it in Army sand colored camoflage I got from my Reserve unit that was going to be thrown away. It was actually a pretty good little car. I hated the glass hatch as "trunk" entrance, though; too bad AMC didn't have the funds to tool a real hatchback. Since I owned a Gremlin, and one of my best friends bought a Yugo new in '87, will I be categorized as a Geek?

That isn't really that geekish, thats a whooole different category! hehe just kidding.
Deckerz Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I dont think anybody made a 1/24 gremlin but i know amt made a 1/24 pacer. Its a very similar body style, with abit of modifcation you could probaly make it look like a gremlin.

Modelmartin Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 AMT made a stock Gremlin a little later in the production run but parts can be swapped to do an early stocker from the Funny Car kit. I liked that kit when it came out. I also had the Vega panel Funny car kit. MPC also had a Pacer. I have no idea if it was the same tool as the AMT. It would have been exceedingly silly to tool up 2 different Pacer kits! Wouldn't surprise me, though!
Jon Cole Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 (edited) Wish I had picked up one of those Fresh Cherries Gremlins when they were plentiful. Here is the only Gremlin pic I have in my 'Box Art" album... For pics of built Gremlins, check out page one of my built models album (not by me, sadly) It's all in alphabetical order http://public.fotki.com/JCole/model_car_shows/misc_model_contests/ Edited May 23, 2010 by Spyder
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 BTW, I'm fairly certain that AMT Gremlin funny car kit you posted the pic of has a completely stock body. Yes, the AMT Gremlin funny car posted does have a stock body, but not completely. It has a notch cut out of the cowl for supercharger clearance. Bandit Resins has a master for a "completely" stock 1971-72 Gremlin body. I know this because I did the master. When Bandit Resins makes this one available, you'll still need to come up with an AMT 1974-77 Gremlin kit for the chassis and interior.
Modelmartin Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Remember AMT and MPC were two seprate, competing companys at the time. No kidding. (sarcasm) There had been a few instances over the years of AMT using MPC or Jo-Han tooling. I was merely wondering. I don't store too much info in my head about Gremlins and Pacers. I did cut up an MPC Pacer to make the Pro-Mod Pacer body that JImmy Flintstone sells. Chopping the top was a riot. I can't even remember how many pieces I had to cut it into to lower it!
