Van Halen Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Hey, i bought an Arii 1992 Corvette C4 1/24 a few weeks ago and well, im in no rush to start it but i am stuck for what color to paint it ? Some info and pics on the actual colors it came in.. (also note its a hard top, and the wheels are the same as the chrome ones in the pictures.) So please vote for which one you think looks best, or will in 1/24 form, i would prefer to stick to these colors to keep it 100% original, but if any other colors just say and pick "other" and post what color, Thanks. Black White Gray Blue Red
Jordan White Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) Technically the first color is Black Rose Metallic (note the purplish tint), and the blue is actually black. The blue they used in 1992 was a lighter shade, called Quasar Blue: In any case, I think a white with red interior or red with white interior would look great. Edit: Tree'd due to research! *shakes fist at Mark* Edited June 8, 2010 by YJIslander
Harry P. Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 What's the difference what color you paint it? Apparently you're color blind!!!!
Jordan White Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) JINX!!!!! Know that I only beat you because I didn't want to confirm if it was Quazar Blue or not. I was 90-percent sure, but posted first just to foil your plans! "You would have gotten away with it if it weren't for these meddling kids!" Good one Shaggy! Edited June 8, 2010 by YJIslander
Jordan White Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 We all missed that your "gray" one was really Polo Green, as well! Here's the actual color list... Wonder how he got white and red correct?
Kaleb Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) Maybe we all could see this one....paint it lime green Edited June 9, 2010 by Kaleb
RodneyBad Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Maybe we all could see this one....paint it lime green I'll second the Lime Green I think it looks good. But then again, I'm in a Green phase
Van Halen Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Harry, i compeletly crapped myself when you said i was color blind, i was wondering how the hell you knew that, then i realised the joke I am color blind, well "RG color blind", so yeah my appologies i get greens, browns, greys mixed up and blues/purples/pinks, its really annoying as im a really good artist but i have to ask who evers with me what colors what and such (so i now stick with just graphite pencils), i was going to work for a graphics sign company too, but then i was like.. ###### if i made a mistake like i just did with the corvettes i will have hell to pay..
sjordan2 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) I had a '93 6-speed coupe for many years that was black with a black interior, and I was constantly being told how cool it looked. A real pain to keep clean, but that's not an issue with a model (unless it's exposed to dust – I have a black diecast of this car that really needs to be kept in a display case). It would also look good with black '96 wheels, or other non-directional wheels. Others I knew favored C4s that were sort of fly yellow. And I agree with those who like white with a red interior. I discourage metallics because I think they're too out-of-scale for 1/24-25 models. Edited June 9, 2010 by sjordan2

Like this ? i love this, but i dont have those wheels If i DID have those wheels, i would be making a Grand Sport.. as they are the same wheels. Edited June 9, 2010 by Van Halen

Eric Stone Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I have the Testor's kit of that, the Boyd's Hauler. It's a nice kit. Still need to finish mine. I won't be using the decals from it...
Van Halen Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) Right, with blue the most popular vote i finally came to the decision of painting it Quasar Blue.. BUT With many people mentioning a Van Halen color scheme which im all for ive had second thoughts BUT ..Thats blue for a reason.. the actual plastic the corvette body is molded is.. you guessed it blue, this means its going to be a complete pain to paint the red ontop im gona have to primer it like mad that could loose detail due to thick primer.. BUT I think im going to do the Corolla Levin i bought'Van Halen style' for the jap community build and name it "Van Levin".. What do you all think ? Quasar Blue it is ? or Van Vette' ? Well, good luck with the metallic blue. Unless you can find a suitable pearl version, it's going to look like a bass boat with that much metal flake at that scale. I know a lot of modelers here forge ahead with metallics, but I thought part of our craft was to be as realistic as possible.
Jordan White Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 It doesn't necessarily have to be a metallic, it could just be a gloss. You could always try and find some similar color matched paint at your local auto parts store and see how big the metalflake is just for comparison. Also, didn't know that you were partially colorblind! I figured that perhaps your monitor settings were just a bit off!
Van Halen Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 Tamiya has some nice fine metallics in thier spray cans and the Model Master Nassau blue has some fine metallic as well. the Van Levin idea is awesome! Fujimi i believe did some Boyds billet style wheels at one point. those could be a cool touch if you can find a set for that project. Dave i would use Tamiya sprays but no where seems to sell them in the UK, its a bit of a waste spending loads of postage if from abroad when there only 100ml too, ive had some Tamiya gun metal for my Nisssan Silvia, and that cost quite a bit for postage which im not going to do again ..
Van Halen Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) i thought too that alot of modelers over your way used Halfords automotive paints? Dave Yup, thats what i use, its £6 ($9) a can of 300ml, its a tiny bit too thick for model kits as its actual auto paint, but with a decent distance and quite a few layers its pretty good. $9 is quite a bit but i guess its 3x as much paint than you get in a can of Tamiya which is about £5/6 here, you probably get it cheaper in USA. robertw Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 What you called Grey is actually the Polo Green which is one of my favorite Corvette colors since it goes so well with a light tan interior. For '92 & '93 White interiors were available in the Corvette and a Bright Agua, Quasar Blue or Red exterior looks really great with the white interior.
