dryvr12 Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I also belong to a Crosman airgun forum and they had a rep. watching for suggestions on new models, upgrades and so forth. Just curious, but do we have a rep. for any big model companies?

Just curious, but do we have a rep. for any big model companies? There's Len Carsner and Bill Coulter, who do build articles on pre-production Revell kits, I guess they could pass things on to Revell. Tim Boyd has asked for some input for Revell as well. I work for a big model distributor (although my participation here is strictly as a hobbyist), I've passed things up to my boss and co-workers(one of our salesmen is a member of the HMA board, and my boss is the chairman) that I've seen on this board and others.

Howard Cohen Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I know one of the guys from Round2 and he watches the forums as best he can, depending on his schedule. I have even seen him respond to questions. There is a good chance he reads this forum even though he may not be registered. I would think that Gregg and a few others here have contact with all the model kit manufacturers as well.
Exotics_Builder Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Revell has told me they watch this forum as well as others, but for obvious reasons, do not reveal themselves.

Deckerz Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Im not sure because iv not been here long but i contacted tamiya to ask if they would would consider making a 1/24 model of my 1:1 car a MG ZR, i was in the world rally a few years back so why not.
Howard Cohen Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Although you think the MG would be a good model, maybe no one else does. The basic cost to make a 1/24th or 1/25th model kit can be as much as $250,000, including research, making a master, engineering, tools and dies, instructions, packaging, etc. They would have to sell a lot of models of your MG to break even, much less make any money. Even the reissues from Round2 or Revell have a minimum run of 5000 units. Asking a company to make one is not realistic. If you want to have a model of your car, you may have to scratch build one by yourself. I have not seen a model of a late model MG in plastic, resin or any other material, so maybe there is not enough interest.
Luc Janssens Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) I also belong to a Crosman airgun forum and they had a rep. watching for suggestions on new models, upgrades and so forth. Just curious, but do we have a rep. for any big model companies? In the past there were company reps who interacted with the public in forums, but since a few years, there's no more active involvement. I'm guessing they weigh the pro's, cons and percentage of useful info they can pick up, against the costs of having an employee participating or just reading and filtering useful info. Also there's a saying, talking is silver, but silent is gold, especially to prevent the proverbial slip of the tongue when a competitor is reading that same board. just my thoughts on the matter. I could be wrong and have been in the past Luc Edited June 14, 2010 by Luc Janssens

I might have a go in my college course next year.
Exotics_Builder Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Maybe you ARE revell in disguise ? Sorry to disappoint, but I am not. A member of a club I belong to works at Revell. He says that they do peruse the forums, amongst other ways to gather information and feedback. He’s an honest person and I take him at his word. Sadly, their budget for covering events, let alone sponsoring, is considerably less than it used to be.
