Hexagram Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 This is my ongoing summer project, found this kit hidden in the back of a hobby shop and and wanted to do something cool with it. Its a snap kit but I wanted to add as much detail to the kit as possible. the only parts that will be used from the kit, is the interior, body and associated parts and wheels every thing else is donated or built using styrene. It will be a 454 big block truck mostly stock nothing wild Enjoy
modelhut Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 This is gonna be great. So nice skill being displayed here, keep the progress pictures comin' Rod
Chris guthro Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 What kit are you using for the donor? I wouldnt mind doing the same thing but a regular cab dually!! You probabley could get away with using the 2wd long box regular cab 1988 Chevrolet 1500. And combining it with the SS454 for the right powerplant. Very nice job on the driveshafts!
cam Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I'm gona watch this build, great work so far. Love the drive shafts.
Hexagram Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Thanks Th e kit is AMTs Snap Fast Plus 1996 Chevrolet "Dooley" its an older kit. The engine i'm using is Amts 70 Monty Carlo LS5 454 with automatic transmission

Actually, Chris, the suggestions you gave is EXACTLY how a friend of mine made a regular cab dually out of those kits. He started with the AMT regular cab Chevy, I can't remember if it was the 88 or the 90 kit, and added the dually bed and stock wheels from the Monogram F350 dually. The dually bed fits perfectly on the full detail kit's frame. If you'd like, I have a pic of it I could PM you.
Chris guthro Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Yes definatley interested in it! May have to make this a new project of mine and start gathering the right parts for it. Ive just built the AMT 454SS pickup and absolutley loved that kit. Once I get my camera working again Ill start posting more. What frame are you using for this one?
RodneyBad Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 That is looking Great. Did ya scratch build the U-Joints? Those look Great. Nice chassis Nice looking A-arms Motor looks like it is gonna be great too.
Chris guthro Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Kinda curious what wheel and tire combo your going to be running? I dont think anyone makes any decent lookin 8 lug wheels in 1:25/1:24 Chris
Hexagram Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 More progress. Painted and weathered wheels, engine, drive shaft and spare tire, also have a mockup of the projected ride hight. Its going for that 200k used look Final colour will be Testors Royal Blue Pearl
RodneyBad Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Really nice weather work. Did ya scratch build the U-Joints too? they look Great.
Scalper Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Sweet looks good.. thats a truck you can use to haul beater cars to Dave farm. seeing your from london Ontario not to far from him.. like the weathering.
Hexagram Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 Yup the U joints and drive shaft were all built using styrene tube, and aluminum tube. I've never been to dave's farm but I'm a fan of his loopy creativity.
Hexagram Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Sorry for the long wait all my projects are currently on hold for a wile as I'm stuck in the barracks in CFB Borden. I make to much of a mess when building and we have inspections every so often. Thanks for the comments I'm vary eager to get back at this build.
Jim B Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 That looks really nice. I like the weathering job.
