ChrisPflug Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 (edited) Will be a 72 Road Runner/GTX with a 440 4 barrel, 4 speed, and Air Grabber- right now leaning towards dark green with green interior and gold strobe stripe. Engine/trans/Dana rear from a Revell 69 Charger (with AMT '71 valve covers- drivers side modified to '72 style and Holley 600 carb from a Ford Fairlane)steering column and wheel from the Monogram 71 Satellite, as well as the chassis, engine bay, fresh air system, and exhaust tips from an AMT "Street Machine" issue '71 Charger Hopefully will strike a good balance between updates adding detail without taking away from the "character" of the original annual First- a look through the '72 Road Runner stash..... A likely candidate- lots of paint, not much glue After a bath and a few fresh parts from a fresh 80's reissue '71 'Runner kit Edited July 8, 2010 by ChrisPflug
philo426 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Looks like a cool project. Here is a color you might want to consider!
Space Cowboy Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Hey Chris looks like you are off to a great start..Now i know why i can't find any 72 Roadrunners
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Hey Chris looks like you are off to a great start..Now i know why i can't find any 72 Roadrunners I know he out-bid me on several.
charlie8575 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 This'll be fun to watch. In the early 1970s, Chrysler had a pretty, bright dark blue. I always thought that was a nice color. Maybe you should consider it for yours. Charlie Larkin

A likely candidate- lots of paint, not much glue After a bath and a few fresh parts from a fresh 80's reissue '71 'Runner kit I have a MINT unbuilt kit of this car,I personally think it has nice detail,As far as painting one of those "plum crazy"It wasn't offered in 1972,71 was the last year,By the way,I have about as many 71-72 Demons as you do the Road Runners,Including 2 mint unbuilt kits of the 71 Demon,6 Bandit Resin 71's 3 afx 72's and 2 afx 71's,Nice stash you hace there!
jjsipes Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 ANy odds of getting any of the custom parts out of one the 72 Road Runners? I have been looking to build the Rapid Transit Car but have been unsucessful in retreiving one of these.
ChrisPflug Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 I know he out-bid me on several. I should be all set on '72 'Runners so the market should be returning to "normal"- still looking for another '71 GTX though I did shoot myself in the foot on ebay the other day- didn't think I'd be around for the end on an incomplete MPC '71 GTX and placed a bid for probably three times what it was worth then, of course, ended up "winning" for my max bid

Do I need one? No. Do I want one? Hellya!
KDog Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 See Runner lot! Can I play? This is a 80's issue with a bunch of my resin parts.
ChrisPflug Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Not a lot going on with the build- still scrounging up and fitting parts Here's the first fitting of the AMT '71 Charger chassis with Revell '69 Charger Dana rear end and springs
ChrisPflug Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 It's been a while, pulled this one back out First coat of paint Then decided an "assembly line" might be fun- picked out three more likely candidates: Started fitting AMT '71 Charger chassis and engine bays to these as well, two will have white interior so I dug out a couple unpainted white tubs from original '71 RR annuals Have enough to build all the factory colors (plus a couple doubles) as well as the different engine/trans combos. Current ones are dark green/dark green interior with a gold strobe stripe and 440 4 speed, black with white strobe stripe, white interior, and 340 4 speed, yellow with black interior, canopy top, air grabber, V21/V25 longitudinal stripes, 400 automatic, and gray with white interior, white "Tank Tracks" and a 440 automatic
Sport Suburban Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 About four years ago I rebuilt a 72 doing the same chassis swap. It came out awesome. I'm looking foward to yours.
Ron Hamilton Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Chris, I like what you are doing with those. I have a resin '72 and a '71 in line for building in the next few years.
bisc63 Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Very cool stuff. Close to my heart - first driving date, driving my dad's 72 Satellite 4-door; light green metallic exterior, dark grassy green interior. Oh yeah.
