I just want to know if you feel the same way I do when it comes to fair trades.....Now my belief on trading goes like this you and I make an agreement on a trade deal where lets say I send you a crappy caddy model, and at the same time you send me a crappy snap-on wreaker model. Now we both recieve our agreed apon crappy trades, but for some reason you believe my crappy model is crappier than your crappy model and youre not happy. Now heres the delima. Do you now deserve a model 10 times better than our original agreement? like lets say a ]ModelKing 67 Comet AWB? I thought that maybe I should just send you your crappy model back, ( and maybe I'll even let you keep my crappy model for the trouble) Nah send back my crappy model and we'll call it even. So what do you guys think? feel free to be honest....

Look I don't think, that just because a person is not happy with their end of a deal, and the other guy tries to make it right, that should give the person the right to ask for something that is greater then what was sent, If your not happy about the deal, then send back what was sent, back to each other, don't get high and mighty, and ask for something else better, that's just taking advantage of a person...

My 2 cents.

I have been VERY fortunate on the trading issue. I have traded sealed for sealed. I have traded Junk for Junk and EVERYthing between. I think it should be common sense that if both parties dis-agree then ship back. NO SLANDER, or trash talk like some have done. ( Not you btw ). I felt bad myself once cause I was very clear I was sending basically junk and I got really nice fresh cars for it and I am now working to get that guy better stuff. Take the high road and know Karma will hit ya back . I do not think that anyone here should let any one member abuse you for what you have or be rude to them. Communication is key people. I have held Communication very high with every deal I have made and I have traded with people here that many say it is ok and with people that most will not and have NO bad experiences.

If a trade goes bad, both people should just send each others stuff back if fixing it

is beyond reasoning.

That has happened Once, I connacted the other trader and even it was worse than he

thought it was, and he fixed it by sending me another kit (the same but different).

Since it was fixed, I'd still trade with that person anytime.

if you both agreed ahead of time that there crapptacular kits and both have seen pics of what there getting then then there is really nothing more to say.

but if the concerned party feels short changed then make better areangments to make it up of offer then first deal on a another trade.

Romell, here's what I have done in trades and have no issues in doing trades this way. First, since you brought up the issue of junkers, say that I read your thread requesting a Revell Lincoln LSC or Matt & Debbie Hayes T-bird, which I did, by the way! Ok, I have one of the Lincolns that I got off a friend of mine as a built up junker to restore a build from many years ago that I lost in a fire in 1997. He gave me it because he knew I was having trouble finding a fresh kit, but back to the example. If I did want to work a trade out with you for it, I would have let you know via PM, and also sent a PM to you with pictures of my junker. That way you see exactly what your getting before we even make the trade, and then I let you decide what you want to trade. If you decide it's worth a new kit to you, fine by me. If you have a junker you want to trade, say a built tractor trailer truck or something, ok, I built trucks, that sounds good! The only thing I would ask of you was to send me pics to see if I want it or if it would be more work than I want to handle. I would bet, no matter how junky or even if it was missing nothing major, I'd say "Heck yeah, I'll take it!" The old saying "Pictures are worth a thousand words" is so true, you know what to expect and I also know what to expect when we get our trades in the mail! I've done quite a bit of trading the short time I've been a member here, and have traded kit for kit, junk for kit, and even a new kit I bought just to send to one of my trading partners I traded with before just for some truck parts! There was even one I sent a junker that someone wanted, sent the pics of what condition it was in, and I got the fresh kit that he just wanted to get rid of! Now there have been a few execptions, just like the trailer kit I sent for truck parts, no pics were exchanged either way, but that was because we had already had one nice trade beforehand. In the way of trading built ups or parts cars, the pics are so helpful to avoid any issues! You've already seen what you're getting!

In the hopes that this is hypothetical here are my thoughts...

1. Especially if your trading builts, expect the worst and you will not be disappointed.

2. Plastic toys-grown men, don't get too upset over it.

3.A deal is a deal, whether crooked or straight.

4.Eye of the beholder.

5.Karma will sort it out in the end.

Really I could go on forever but you get the gist of my thoughts.

DEAL or NO DEAL...?I say a deal is a deal.Done deal.I was gonna list a new airbrush to trade for a kit.But I'm thinkin it's a cheap air brush. Is it worth a kit?Probly to someone who doesn't have one?Its better than spray cans. But it is a cheap airbrush so they may be somewhat disappointed. So I'll probly just keep it to save the hastle.

I've traded what I believed was a open but complete new kit for two used parts kits- figured was doing a favor to a member and sending out something I wouldn't build to a "better home"

Was called away from home to work- was informed that the trade was unsatisfactory due to a missing instruction sheet and a damaged part- responded but didn't hear back for a while then received a message demanding "making it right"

Still away and frustrated over the whole deal I looked for and purchased another sealed copy of the same kit on ebay for about thirty bucks and had it shipped directly to my trade "partner"- all for two previously painted, common kits I already had multiples of on the shelf and personally valued as five bucks or so worth of parts

No longer trade here but figure I went above and beyond....

I guess its all in the eye of the beholder too of what a person has to trade. However one mans trash can be another mans treasure. I have to say its not only in trades but what you send. I used to (not any more) sell models that I built on ebay, (and every model had 10-20 good close up pics showing the model from every angle)and about 4-5 years ago i sold a totally cherried out lowrider and apparantly it didnt live up to the expectation of the buyer and he smashed it all up and sent it back in pieces saying it was damaged in shipping so he could get his money back. (and he after giving very negative feedback tried to further get me kicked of ebay, and I had 100% feedback before his auction) I had over 200 hours in detailing the paint and kit and it only sold for $85.00, highest bid, but that was how it goes on ebay when you start at $1.00 and was no issue to me as I was sending out a near contest winner, and I packed it inside a box that was put in peanuts and then in another box, but the car looked as if it had been either stomped on or ran over by a car. No possible way to have the car come back in about 1000 little pieces. So what i guess im trying to say is that no matter what you precieve to be a good model, good trade, the other person will no doubt have other ideas!

CROOKED deals happen when you PUROPSELY offer to trade a kit YOU KNOW BEFOREHAND is JUNK!!!! You take a PERFECTLY GOOD, UNBUILT model, NOT a PEICE of JUNK in trade for what YOU KNOW IS something that is IRREPERABLE! Then instead of completeing a fair trade, you go on acting like you have personal problems that keep you from completeing your end of the trade for 6 MONTHS. Then you try to act like YOU were the one who got burned, when you KNEW all along that you were going to send JUNK inplace of a fair trade. How Others find out about someones PERSONAL buisness is because SOME unscrupulous individuals go telling others about things that they do NOT need to know . THEN AFTER YOUR CAUGHT, YOU offer to repace it with ANYTHING the person you RIPPED off would like. So, that person just asks for the ONLY thing he's looking for. Simple as that! DON'T offer to trade OR replace a trade with an offer if you DON'T intend to be straight up about it! Fortunately, the ripee may have a GOOD reputation for tradeing, and a Forum Brother offers to make the trade he was looking for, and comes thru for him, simply because he HAS traded with him, and KNOWS he IS an honest trader!angry.gif

How I deal with trades: I don't. No problems, no headaches. Maybe someday I will, but I would rather trade or buy face-to-face. Meantime, I can ask friends via e-mail, Facebook, or club newsletter for parts or kits. If I do ever use the "trade" feature here, I would use "good trader" posts to make my decision.

Posted (edited)

I don't do trading, but if I do or decide to I would go with somebody that

has good trader reviews, as there are a lot of good traders on here. By doing

this you seem to know who you might be dealing with and nobody gets burned or

dealt a bad DEAL :P

I only trade sealed kit for sealed kit. Less chance of getting a box of junk. It doesn't eliminate the risk, but it does lessen the chances of being disappointed.

Trading is risky... there is NO guarantee that you'll get what was promised, or get it in the condition it was promised. And there's NO guarantee that if you feel like you've been "cheated" the other guy will make it right.

There are a lot of risks involved in trading... as long as you're willing to accept the fact that you might wind up totally screwed, go ahead and trade.

If you don't want to take that risk, don't trade! Because once a trade goes bad, there's really not much you can do about it if the other guy won't cooperate.

All of these stories seem to indicate that it's a good idea to take lots of pictures of what you're sending and how you packed it. And make sure your buyer/trader sees enough to understand what he's getting. I've only bought a few built kits on eBay, but from glue-bomb to a beautiful build, the seller's photography gave the correct impression and I've almost always gotten what I expected, except for one purchase.

and when there are virtually no repercussions to the bad trader after it has been establised as fact that he has ripped off people. It is being addressed at this time to which we can only hope will be a satisifactory outcome for the cheated parties and an example made to others that it is not a thing to be tolerated here at MCM!

Especially since a second chance was awarded to make it right and has been virtually blown of by the unmentioned bad trader!
