Jim0205 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 So Ihave recently started work on yet another kit. I have several right now in varying stages of completion. This one though I am planning on keeping it simple and just going where the model takes me. I am not going to say that it is box stock mild custom or anything like that because truth be told I don't know where it will land, I will say that it will be closer to stock then wild custom hence the title non-conformist. Here's what I do have so far Colour: Exterior: black and red Interior: red, white and black So let;s see where this one ends up, coments always welcome.
Jim0205 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) The carpet is just embossing powder sourced from Michaels, had to give it a try after reading so many positive reviews on the forum. Can a mod also fix my title? Edited August 14, 2010 by Jim0205
W-409 Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Great start! This is my favourite cars and your looks good. Please, no any bigger wheels that 15''? But can you post a picture from the underneath of the car, I mean chassis... That kind of picture where gas tank shows up.

Yeah I know the Low Rider or Donk route is out, and sure I should be doing some work on the suspension and what nots today.
camaroman Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Great looking start Jim. The paint and interior look great. On the subject of wheel/tire combo, It's your build but these beast look good with 17/18's IMHO. Can't wait to see it finished.
Lyle Willits Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Great start. Just some trivia - the Revell '60 Impala kit uses the reissued chassis from the '59 Impala. The chassis is correct EXCEPT for the spare tire well hanging down. In '60, the spare was moved into the trunk. Simple fix - just cut out the well and glue in a piece of sheet plastic.
Railfreak78 Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Off to a great start Jim. I used to have a black model like this but it was one that got destroyed. I'm watching.
impcon Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 A very attractive colour combination - unusual, but really pretty. These cars have so much potential as models but it is just hard to improve on the factory stock look IMHO. Again, it's just my opinion but the wheels should be no larger than 15".. I'd stray no further from stock than maybe a set of Monte Carlo.Camaro style factory rally wheels with white walls. I have a real '59 Chevy 2 door wagon that had a set of 15" 1967 Impala rallys ( one year design only but very close to the rallys that GM put on their cars for years afterwards ) on it when I bought it and those wheels sure did look good on that car! Anyhow - it's your model - not mine and you are doing a great job on it. I'll be watching.
Jim0205 Posted August 15, 2010 Author Posted August 15, 2010 Yeah I thoght the potruding spare hump was out of place..... Yeah i think I am going to keep the whites and hubs with the knock offs on them I do have some ideas for the optionals that come with the kit. Thank you all for your generous comments and advice.

I think that this says it all regarding your choice of wheels!..
Jim0205 Posted August 15, 2010 Author Posted August 15, 2010 So I checked out the chasis as I had se it aside to work on other parts and yes I did leave the hump. So this poses an interesting challenge cut it out of a finished piece and patch it in. Before I prep for surgery here are the wheels. The wheels washed and detailed
Harry P. Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Can a mod also fix my title? That'll be five bucks.
Jim0205 Posted August 15, 2010 Author Posted August 15, 2010 That'll be five bucks. And that's payable to whom? : )
Harry P. Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 And that's payable to whom? : ) A wise guy, eh? make that ten!

That is the thing, I was talking about, when I said that post a picture from chassis part. Othervise in this '60 Impala, there are a few '59's parts in the box!
Jim0205 Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 So a little bit more work done, removed the extra spare as seen in the first two. did some mock up which highlighted some alignment issues that I am working to correct on the front suspension.
W-409 Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 EXELLENT! Very good job with it, like these so much that I have a few waiting to get on the workbench...
Jim0205 Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 Lots of work done recently wasn't able to update as often ,been really busy. I have completed the engine and interior portions and am getting ready to stuff it all together here's where I am. Engine More Engine Interior more interior
David G. Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Looks to me like it was worth the wait! Nice detail.
DRG Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 A friend of mine had one of these back in 65 or 66. It had Keystone Mags on the front and Chrome reverse with baby Moons in the rear. It had a 348 in it, actually it had several 348's in it as he kept blowing the engine. Nice job on this one, I love that interior.
Jim0205 Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 Thank's gentlemen I call it Canada day special for the interior.
MikeMc Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Very nice!! I just bought this kit for the 348 tri power, but after opening the box and with another 50% off coupon from Michaels I need 1 more now Its a 19.95 kit for 10.00!!
