aksarben Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 (edited) Hello all, I'd like to share my current project, this is my first wip. I knew I wanted to do something with the new Camaro, so while surfing Google images for inspiration I spotted this concept rendering.. Wow, how cool would it be to build this or something similar. So that is what I am doing. I'm not after replicating this exactly but will use this as a reference. I'll be scratchbuilding allot and using tons of parts from the partsbox and a few aftermarket items. So here goes. Wheels are from an old Tamaya Skyline, tires are from a diecast nascar, sanded way down to be low profiles. Here the wheel wells have been drastically cut out to make room to move the wheels out and up.. Edited September 21, 2010 by aksarben
aksarben Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 I enlarged the lower opening of the front and built up the lower edge with stock plastic Here are the new openings on the hood and the start of the new bigger cowl.. And finally, the new complete hood
Jared Roach Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 looks nice, gonna be a nice build when you get it all done.
aksarben Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 Thanks bowtie. By the way if anyone was wondering, this is the AMT Camaro kit. I hate the red plastic but otherwise the kit is pretty detailed aside from the rear suspension and axle. Here is a mockup showing how much the wheels were moved out and up.
RodneyBad Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 WOW!! that already looks wicked. Nice looking hood and front end treatment the wheels/tires look good too.
LAone Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 ill be waiting on some more of this. the concept is really cool looking.
vizio93 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Wow this is looking really cool man, I like the wheels and tires !!! Can't wait to see what you do with the fenders
aksarben Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 Thanks guys. Here is an update. The interior started with carbon fiber hump, fire system set up, aluminum panels and some wiring. Here is a shot of the roll cage started.. and some views of the completed cage Thanks for looking Questions, comments welcome. Steve
sjordan2 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 This looks like it's going to be fabulous, and I love the car you're inspired by. What does ALMS stand for?
aksarben Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 Thanks Skip, ALMS stands for "American Le Mans Series". This 3D rendering by VizualTech is their concept of what a Camaro might look like if there were one in the ALMS. Steve
Foxer Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Slick idea for a build.. a pretty good looking Camaro
sjordan2 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Thanks, Steve, I should have figured out the ALMS part. But judging by your mock-up, I think you're really on to something regardless of how you may depart from the 3D rendering. I can see a bit of a Corvette CR6 in there.
aksarben Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 I am actually using several ALMS cars for reference and the Corvette racing ALMS car is one of them, this will also have a vette engine. Thanks. Steve
tuffone20 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Looks like your off to a really good start with it!! The roll cage looks great!!
aksarben Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 Here is the rear deffuser from start to finish.. Steve
vizio93 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Man that diffuser looks sweet !!! I might have to build one of these Camaro's too
Peter Lombardo Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Extremely well thought out and beautifully executed….so far…..Very impressive. The roll cage is very nice and very beefy. Keep it going. The rear defuser is very precise looking…..I think this will be a killer build when complete….a candy red over gold finish and WOW!!!! Eye popping!
codie27 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 WOW this is gonna look cool, very nice concept. I dont like new cars but this has my attention!! That rollcage has a lot of work in it. Looking good.
