Doughnut Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Sweet find! I can think of lots of uses for them - especially in the show rod category.
jas1957 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Ditto what Mark said, I have a set just in a bag. Richard was a guest at a Toledo NNL in the 80's I think, & he donated several sets as door prizes. A neat historical item but I don't know what I'd do with them.
Junkman Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 They are beautifully retro-futuristic. I love them.

I was a kid when they were available and could not afford them. But I loved seeing them on builds in Car Modeler magazine. Edited September 24, 2010 by Marc @ MPC Motorsports
58 Impala Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I bought a set of those almost 40 yrs. ago from the car model bible, the Auto World catalog. I recently found them in a box I'd forgotten about, unfortunately they got brittle and crumbled (bummer) . I used to swap them from model to model trying crazy custom ideas. They looked pretty cool on some kits especially gassers.
george 53 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 WOW! I haven't seen THOSE in a million years! I remember them being advertised in the old Car Modeler magazine. Those are cool if nothing else, just to look at! What ever happened to Richard Carrol? I remember seein alot of his builds in those days.
Scale-Master Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I read they were actually rubber seals used in the aerospace industry that were "re-purposed". Anyone know if that is true?
Draggon Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I read they were actually rubber seals used in the aerospace industry that were "re-purposed". Anyone know if that is true? I seem to remember reading at the time that he turned these on a lathe, and bugging my Dad to buy a knurling tool for his lathe so I could make my own.
Modelmartin Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 I read they were actually rubber seals used in the aerospace industry that were "re-purposed". Anyone know if that is true? That is highly doubtful. They are very obviously made from masters turned on a lathe. The knurling is very nice. I have a set I got at the auction at GSL '07 ( $20.00! ). They are very cool but I don't know when I will have time to build some sort of Richard Carroll-esque type custom. As a kid I so drooled over his models in Car Model magazine.
crazyjim Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Maybe a guy like Al Raab from Ma's Resin would be interested in molding & casting some of puppies?
Greg Myers Posted September 25, 2010 Author Posted September 25, 2010 Maybe a guy like Al Raab from Ma's Resin would be interested in molding & casting some of puppies? He has a set as we speak:P.
crazyjim Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Hope Al ships my order before he starts playing with those new tires.

Years later opend the box and the tires had split on the wheels!
