Sixties Sam Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) Here's my latest offering. It's a ZZ Top coupe kit from Revell, purchased at a flea market for $6.99. Here's the story: Some of you might remember Vickie, who loves pink, and her 56 Ford Crown Vic that I built last year. Well, her hubby wanted to build a street rod, and Vickie insisted that it had to have some pink on it. So the old man put a pink stripe on it and just for kicks, painted the engine pink, too! The model is built OOB, except for adding spark plug wires and a different air cleaner. The paint is Testors gloss white and Krylon yellow and pink. The finish is far from perfect, not polished out, and with some rough lines between the colors, but I had fun with it, and I think it looks sorta cool! I hope you guys like it. I had planned to use the hood side panels, but they wouldn't clear the plug wires. Oh, well! The license plate says "Deuce+1". Edited September 24, 2010 by Sixties Sam
Jim0205 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Looks good, nice and simple touches really make it stand out.
Foxer Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Vickie sure has her man on her ring finger! But, that dang thing looks great .. paint included!
Jantrix Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 The bright colors sure scream 1980's to me, but it really is a nice clean build up. Well done.
oldscool Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 That is one fine looking 33! Don't worry about the paint as it looks great. The real cars often don't have perfect paint anyway. Magazine pics are often heavily airbrushed to cover the flaws on the real things. oldscool
Kris Morgan Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Looks good. reminds me of what was going on with 1:1 rods in the late 80's, early 90's.
Sixties Sam Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 Thanks for the compliments, guys! I wanted something different in the finish, and I guess it is! It's a little gaudy by today's standards. The yellow is actually lighter than the photos show it. The pics were taken at dusk. Here's one taken in sunlight. It's still an eye-grabber, though! Sam
vaughn Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Looks good Sam. Like something the real ZZTops would ride around in. Shes got legs!!!!!!
DRG Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 I love the 33, it looks like a good clean build with a real nice paint job. But I would darn near kill for that 56.
