junkman1153 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I have been told that there was a mid 70's camaro released with the joie chitwood decals. did they actually release this and by what company. any one know if aftermarket decals were ever available. i ve been wanting to build a 70's chitwood camaro . here in winston salem i used to supply the cars they crashed and got to know them well. when in town they would pick my kids up at school in the chitwood camaros, it was really cool of them.
AzTom Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Not sure what years you are asking about, he started back in the mid 50's. Ertl made a 1/25? scale plastic Chevy Chevette and metal semi cannon truck set many years ago. I have one boxed away somewhere. Not sure about a model kit. AzTom
Dragline Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Chitwod ran up north back then and I got to see them more than once. AMT did a kit of it. Might be tough to find these days but I know there was one made. Good luck and open your wallet. Bob

Mark Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 As an aside, the Chitwood Camaro (and Hell Drivers Mustang II) kits I have seen have the "thrill show ramps" made of printed cardboard, as opposed to the detailed styrene ramps in the '49 Ford, '49 Mercury, and '50 Ford Convertible kits.
junkman1153 Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 1974 Camaro thank you i didn't remember this kit my friend insisted it was made. very difficult to find i would imagine . as i said in the original post we (MY family} supplied the crash cars for 11 years in winston salem.
Junkman Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 They weren't really that hard to find until not too long ago. I remember them being regularily offered by Hobby Heaven and this is where I got mine from. I guess it's a matter of putting a few want ads out, going t swap meets and checking Feebay on regular basis. As a rule of thumb, whatever you look for will turn up eventually. All you have to do is stay patient, which I know is not a virtue we modellers are overly blessed with.

I got a hold of the 1974 Chitwood camaro kit but had to remake the decals with photo shop since the old waterslides were unusable. I recently re-did them again and made the logo blue and yellow like it is supposed to be. also i created decals for the 1980's timeframe and i am working on my newest creation... a 1995 camaro. now i will have 3 decades of different style Chitwood cars.
Ben Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Chitwoods? Hmmmmmmmm, doesn't that have something to do with a bear?
envious8420 Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Chitwoods? Hmmmmmmmm, doesn't that have something to do with a bear? Coffee thru the nose. thank you. that made my day.

AzTom I have stashed away a program from the Joie Chitwood show at the county fairgrounds in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, 1979 or 1980..the ERTL set is pictured in the program. I remember the show being a lot of fun, Camaros, Chevettes, a Corvette or two..
PatRedmond Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Sure would like a set of those first generation decals..........

CapSat 6 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 On a slightly related note, the first set of swap meet Mopar Rallye wheels I ever bought (Mopars at Englishtown, circa 1988) had two really fat old raised white letter tires on them. “Joie Chitwood Revengers”. I had them on my ‘71 Satellite Sebring for about a week. We still laugh about those tires once in awhile. He must have had some merchandizing deal with a tire dealer (Sears? JC Penney’s). I’d love to find photographic evidence of those tires.
