Agent G Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 I am planning on this representing a "factory" build therefore I modified the LS1's valve covers. I made decals that say "Impala SS" and they are drying as we speak. More engine work coming so stay tuned. G
Agent G Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 Ok another 55 hour week has gone and I'm back on the bench. Here's the engine as it sits right now. I haven't begun wiring yet. Here's the interior as of today. Lots of work and paint detailing to come so stay tuned. G
charlie8575 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Nice work, Wayne. I like the woodgrain in place of the black interior trimplates. This is a great build, keep it coming. Charlie Larkin
Agent G Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 The interior is just about finished. Lots of paint detailing. I used oils to replicate the wood grain, and flocking for the carpet. G
charlie8575 Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Very nice Wayne. That looks about like the taupe/neutral interior of the mid-90s, colorwise, too. Charlie Larkin
David G. Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Everything looks great, your paint and interior detail are excellent. I have one question though: Is the lever on the right side of the steering column a gear selector? If it is, you may want to remove it if you plan on using a shifter on the console. Other than that, everything looks great! Regards, David G.
Agent G Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 Thank you all. David that is going to be taken off as that is an unnecessary control given the Impala's layout. Right now the whole steering column/wheel is just tacked on, and only base coated the interior color. The Goats wheel has aluminum spokes which I think won't look so good in this interior. I need suggestions, should I just replicate stock (aluminum colored spokes), or utilize the wood trim in and on the wheel? G
Agent G Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 Here's what I did with the rear end. I used springs from a ballpoint, and scratched the perches. I made the shocks from aluminum tube, one inside the other. G
charlie8575 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I think the wood treatment on the wheel would work well, too. Wayne- what is the base color of the interior? Charlie Larkin
Agent G Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 Thanks Guys! DD ya read my mind regarding the ignition switch. Charlie the color is a Tamiya laquer spray #AS-15 USAF tan. The can is marked "Tamiya Color for Aircraft". I've used the one can for three interiors now and it really looks nice. It dries semi-flat which really works for vinyl and leather interiors. G
Agent G Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 Ok well I had a few minutes so I photographed the body. This sat for about four weeks (work and life intervened) so it was fully cured. I decided to give it a wet rub down with some fine grit paper, then used my tried and true Novus #2 polish. The key is to sacrifice an old white cotton T shirt, works every time. After a bit of Novus #1 here she is. G
Wagoneer81 Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 This is looking sweet! So many subtle and not so subtle changes and mods that simply just... belong... It is 'what should have been'. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one in 'Under Glass'.
Agent G Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 Here's where I'm at as of right now. It's going to be a few weeks yet as I have had to pack things up for the Holidays. I'm calling the interior completed. The chassis is done. The engine and the engine compartment are nearly complete. I have scratched a filler panel for the headliner, and applied Future to the "glass", more to come. G
charlie8575 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I really like this, Wayne. This is coming out spectacular. Charlie Larkin
Agent G Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 I had the opportunity to add some detail to the engine compartment. I worked off a photo of my co-workers GTO. I used some scrap wire and some beading wire to replicate the various hoses and lines. G
Agent G Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 A little of this, a little of that and before I knew it the car was like this. G
Agent G Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 One more, for some reason photoyuckit didn't like this one. D
charlie8575 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 For some reason, those brakes just jump out at me. This whole package looks great, Wayne. Charlie Larkin
FordWagonNut Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Simply brilliant work! Love that color combination.
David G. Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Coming along nicely! The interior looks great. The paint has a nice factory looking shine to it. The extra details are great too! Regards, David G.
Agent G Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 Thanks Guys! The body sat down real well, in spite of the fact I had to join the interior and body first due to the wiring. Wheels are on now and I'm well on the road to completion. Looks like tomorrow night might be the end. I'm not real pleased with the rear end ride height. It seems to be too high by just a smidge. The front looks good. I'll post pics as soon as I can. G
Agent G Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Ok everythings combined and time to move to "Under Glass" G
