Dr. Cranky Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Greetings again from Cranky's Workshop . . . the crew has been busy once again going through the 3 Revell "Limited Edition" 37/38 Ford pick up and putting together something different. This one is in raw plastic still waiting for the modifications and adornments to be done so it can go into the paintshop . . . The wheels are from The Modelhaus and the gas tank is scratch-built from a Cirkle-K lighter . . . The iron works are photo-etched goodies from the spares box . . . Stay tuned in for more . . .
Terror Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Can't wait man. It's already lookin good.I see the boards have already hit the time machine....
Dr. Cranky Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 Thanks, Terry. Yeah, the boards are done . . . but I am thinking of putting a slat under the tank or leave it braced and open so you can get a glimpse of the chassis and dirt through it . . . besides, I am planning on making the gas tank a bit gunkier than the rest of the build . . . which is going to include some torn up seats . . .stay tuned in.
curt raitz Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 This thing cracks me up...I keep comin' back and lookin' at it over and over again! can't wait to see what you end up doin' to this poor lil' pick'em up truck
W-409 Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Nice job with it so far! It looks good, just my style. Your work is always nice, I can't wait to see this one finished!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 Thanks. Mike, I am going to try the dented cap shortly on a similar build. Stay tuned in . . .
Raul_Perez Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Looking good, Virgil!! I really like the gas tank and the missing trim on the passenger-side door!! Later,
Dr. Cranky Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 Making slow progress, but everything is in primer as of 5pm, so we'll allow everything to dry overnight. Stay tuned in for more, and a surprise too!
tuffone20 Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Wow another great one in the making!! I'm watching this one!!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 Me too, buddy. I had been away from the bench most of the year, but I friendly reminder from a friend that I needed to get off my derriere and finish my book helped.
Tom Kren Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 So far I LIKE! and know it will e another killer build from your bench!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 Thanks maties, here is some more progress . . . I sprayed this one with Plastikote ruddy brown primer . . . and wait! No, you are not seeing double . . . Hum . . . enough parts for two different builds . . . and Mike, if ou look on the left you will see the dented hubcap in progress . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 After the primer dried over night, I came back to it and sprayed some shading in a mixture of brown and black . . . just to begin to give the body some definition. If you notice the door panel of this one, I did a bit of body work on the panel to signify that this thing had been "touched" and "retouched" a few times in its working life . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 Here's a better picture of the body work and the pre-shading that's taking place. I'm a big believer in doing this because I think it pays off in the end when the model is painted you can see some of this foundational work coming through.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 After the shading, I used rust color for a general fogging of the body, and then orange yellow stippled. I know a lot of this stuff is not going to show through on the chipping of the paint, but I know it's there . . . All the parts have been painted this way, and the next step is a few light coats of hair spray, followed by a few light coats of Dullcoat . . .and then stay tuned in for the body color . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 Here's an extreme closeup of that dented hubcap . . . it's a mild dent which I managed to pull of by drilling a hole into the plastic and then covering the area with aluminum foil, glued, and then dented with the end of a brush . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 We'll see what it looks like once it is painted and on the wheel.
Jantrix Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 My name is Rob Mattis and I approve of this thread. Awesome work!. So tell us more about this book?
Dr. Cranky Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 A little rust research is in order . . .
