DRG Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 OK, I'm learning. Each model gets a little better than the one before it. Now I have learned another valuable lesson. At least for me. Never, ever open two similar kits at the same time. Now the parts are mixed up and I'm trying to sort them back out. GRRRRRRRRRRR
davyou5 Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 (edited) OK, I'm learning. Each model gets a little better than the one before it. Now I have learned another valuable lesson. GRRRRRRRRRRR Just like you I am in the learning process too. still I have never worked with two similar kits at the same time (sort of), at least for different purposes, but you are right, every time you build one, the others get better than others before, and I definitely have much to learn when it comes to painting . Good Luck . Edited November 26, 2010 by davyou5
MikeMc Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I suspect this is the TRUTH behind kitbashing..............
Joe Handley Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I suspect this is the TRUTH behind kitbashing.............. I suspect you're probably right
Guest Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 No similarities between them at all, except they are both Chevies. The 50 bed is a stepside, the Camoe is flat sided. The 50 has a 6 cylinder, the 55 a V-8.
Joe Handley Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 But they're both ladder frame and use solid axle/leaf spring suspensions on both ends, IIRC just enough in common to be a pain while trying to figure out which is which
Chuck Most Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I can sort the two kits in question out well enough- but yeah, I've had the same problems myself!
Aaronw Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Ha, you should see my work bench, I misplaced a Payhauler on it once. The multiple build thing is an acquired skill, and who knows a 1950 Cameo might look good.
Guest Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 True, the suspensions are probably pretty similar, use the parts #'s to identify! Good luck!
Danno Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I've had that experience. Usually, there's enough difference in the parts or parts trees that you can study the instructions carefully and sort them out appropriately. If not, you may have to resort to my tried and true method: buy another of one of the kits and compare the new kit's parts to the jumbled parts! The extra bonus is that you now get to build another of one of the trucks. The above advice is free, and worth every dollar of its price!
diymirage Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 and that is why we only build several kits at a time IF they are both molded in different colours
Joe Handley Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 and that is why we only build several kits at a time IF they are both molded in different colours Not a bad idea Eelco!
Longbox55 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 But they're both ladder frame and use solid axle/leaf spring suspensions on both ends, IIRC just enough in common to be a pain while trying to figure out which is which The frames are actually quite different. While true, the are both solid axle w/leaf spring front and rear, the '50 has a definite taper to the frame, where the '55 is a true parallel ladder style frame. The '50 frame also has running board brackets that the '55 doesn't have.
