Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Hollywood Jim has been busy commanding the amazing caravan of post-apocalyptic vehicles out there . . . THANK YOU Jim for creating such a wonderful archive of WW3/Post-Apocalyptic vehicles. You make Tommy May proud! Not to mention that you have Cranky salivatin' at the bench! http://public.fotki.com/shrimpee/misc_model_car_stuff/world-war-3/ Edited December 1, 2010 by DamnCranky
Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 I was just talking to Hollywood Jim about how many of these vehicles are around, and builders continue to get excited about building them. Those of you who have built one know how much fun they are, those of you who haven't, it's never too late to get going. I just wish more magazines all over the scene would devote more attention to such builds. To the best of my knowledge I don't think Tamiya or any other magazing (EXCEPT, of course MCM!) has ever done much. These types of builds represent folks who want to push the boundaries in model car building, and who also want to think outside of the box. I often think about Pat Covert and how one of the builders who influenced him to build WW3 vehicles is Kow Yokoyama, Japan's most famous model designer and builder.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 See, this is precisely the kind of build that gets Cranky cranked up. I had never seen this build before, but it's the poster child of what is totally possible and fun about building one.
highway Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 See, this is precisely the kind of build that gets Cranky cranked up. Well Cranky, I hope this one gets you cranked up! First off, this is not my build, a friend of mine built this. He doesn't post here as much as I do, he just doesn't have much spare time, so I'm helping him out. He built this probably about 15 years ago after watching "The Road Warrior" and finding one of his Testors Chezoom quickbuilders he was looking for an idea for and a NATO weapons pack he had won at a show, and some added bits from his parts box. He calls it "Road Killer", I call it a solution to rush hour traffic!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 I had seen this before posted on this forum . . . I love this kind of build. Armed to the hilt and ready for the Apocalypse.
highway Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) I had seen this before posted on this forum . . . I love this kind of build. Armed to the hilt and ready for the Apocalypse. Yeah, I think my friend posted it somewhere here, but I can't remember where! EDIT:Yep, found it in the "Other Models" section! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=36583 Edited December 1, 2010 by highway
Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 The other wonderful thing about these kinds of builds is that you can really put your spares parts box to good use. All those unbuilt tanks, airplane, and sci-fi kits come in handy.
Chuck Most Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Jeez... be patient, Cranky! Mine's on the way, just not sure when.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 Can't wait, Chuck. Keep 'em coming.
Jantrix Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Maybe it's time for another CBP Virgil? Maybe see if Tommy May wants to get involved again?
Dr. Cranky Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 Yeah, in the coming year . . . that would be cool. Who knows what Tommy May is up to these days . . . he used to hang out on the forums a bit more than he does now. Maybe the TZH came for him finally and took him away.

Railfreak78 Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Cranky I want to personally thank you for getting me going and inspired with the last community build. You will remember Sub-Urban. I had a BLAST building this truck and I would have never built like this if it wasn't for you. This truck also really streched my scratch and kit bash abilities and I am now a much better builder for it. I have since taken home 2 awards for it and those are my first ones ever and are very special to me. If you guys start another one next year and completely down for another
David G. Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Brian, that thing just scares the ba-jeebers outta me. Congrats on the honors you received for it, well earned indeed!
