Casey Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I noticed the Revell '57 Chevy Black Widow kits were being cleared out (i.e. marked down, on the clearance rack, etc.) and both Hobby Lobby and Michaels recently. It was down to $19.99 @ Michaels, and while that is still more expensive than at full price with the 40% discount coupon, keep an eye on them as they may get down to the magical $5.00 price eventually.
Railfreak78 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) It's not a Mustang so of course Hobby Lobby is getting rid of it. Last time I was there there was 24 Mustang kits ranging grom snap to metal. To many, Keep the 57 and loose one mustang Edit: Don't take it wrong. I LOVE Mustangs but I want more variety Edited December 19, 2010 by Railfreak78
Longbox55 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) Actually, it's more of clearing out old stock. Hobby Lobby does this on a regular basis, especially at the end of the year. That particular HL must have a large stock of the Black Widows, as the few that are semi-local to me never seem to have them. I've picked up many a good deal hitting the Hobby Lobby clearance racks, including a Model 800 cordless Dremel kit for $26 (normally $90) as well as a Big T and Big Deuce for just under 50% off. BTW, I so far, have 2 Widows. 1 is being built as a Black Widow, after I correct the rear axle to the proper 1/2 ton pickup axle, the other is being built as an MP drag car. And yes, I have plans to pick up a few more. Edited December 19, 2010 by Longbox55
Mike Kucaba Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 >What happend to all of the guys who said they were going to buy a case of them? < They found out a case would cost $250.00!!!
Craig Irwin Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) I bought 3, thats half a case. Edited December 19, 2010 by Craig Irwin
Casey Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) Exactly. Just because it didn't sell well in two stores doesn't mean it wasn't a good seller overall. Yep, both stores rotate stock regularly, so I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they didn't sell well. Besides, HL needs to make room for the GOTGL kit. I did find it interesting that Michael's had marked down all their remaining Revell '08 Bullitt Mustang kits to $5.00 for a while, and now they're back on the shelves at $25.00 Is Chris from MN still on here and still working at Michael's? IIRC, he would always provide a nice heads up when Michael's stores were close to "re-setting" their model section. Edited December 19, 2010 by Casey
Fisher61 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 This kit has been on the market for well over a year now! As many as I have seen built-up, I wouldn't say it was a dud! I have 4 of them unbuilt and have 2 built up. I have seen other kits that were "hits" on clearance also. Mustangs,32 Fords and so on.
niteowl7710 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Heck with clearance have them ship at least 1 out to my Michael's! I've been trolling the shelves of the two closest to me since the fall, and neither have even carried the kit (not even a marked empty slot on the shelf), let alone needing to worry about not selling them...for that matter they both HAVE had a slot marked for the Revell dragsters and have never had any of those either.
imatt88 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I actually went to a REAL hobby shop yesterday for the first time in almost a year, and finally took a good look at that kit. It's a base Chevy 150 model with DOG DISH HUBCAPS!!!! If I had known that, I would have brought more money with me I'll pick one up sooner or later Cheers, Ian
Fisher61 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 You can bet that Revell is gearing up for a revamped version of this kit in the future with custom wheels, lowered suspension, and maybe a back seat. They already have the tooling for the wheels and suspension in the other tri-five kits.
Rob Hall Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) I don't buy kits at Hobby Lobby or Michaels, so I don't place much significance on their pricing strategies. Anyway, it's a neat kit w/ a lot of building possibilities...I have 2 of em so far, plan to get 2 more...along w/ the Bel Air variation, I've got plans for 6 or so.. crazyjim Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I have only one Black Widow kit and it's still sealed. There's other kits waiting before it that need to be completed - mile high Dodge D50, '68 Dodge Dart hemi, '55 Ford pickup, and a track nose T roadster.
