brett Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Building this one for a build off on the qtr milers model drag forum .Using parts from these 2 kits Caused some serious head scratching trying to get the wheelbase right without setting the engine back, ie I couldnt just extend the front of the frame like I normally would otherwise either the scoop would be in the drivers compartment or the gearbox would be in the engine bay.Think I've it figured out right now, I altered the wheel tubs (stretched) and am making up longer four link bars. cage almost done molding the cowl to the hood mocked up on my trusty test fit frame
jphillips1970 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Looks like your on your way to a killer 1/4 mile ponder - Keep us updated with your build - Thanks - Joe
Reeves Racing Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I like this a lot. The 62 Chevy is my favorite big bodied car. We race my dads 63 Biscayne but I wish it was a 62.
bigmikevee Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Hey Brett, This is going to be cool, really like what you have done so far and can't wait to see what you do next. Thanks for posting. Mike
W-409 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 '62 Impala is something, rarely seen built to Pro Sportsman. Nice work on the chassis, and that work with the scoop looks very nice too. I like how the mockup looks. Nice work with it, I can't wait to see more of it.
Brutalform Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Looking good..Brett. I like those big bodied cars of the 60s as well.
Dragline Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Great start Brett! You are expanding your horizons and I like where you are headed. Bob
brett Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 thanks guys, got a bit more done can start the interior detailing now. As you can see the wheelbase is still a little off but when I enlarge the rear wheel openings ,I'll stretch them forward a little
John Teresi Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Looking good Brett.......what color are you going with?........are going to use decals?
tyrone Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Looking good Bret I like the way this is looking,,,
brett Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 thanks guys Looking good Brett.......what color are you going with?........are going to use decals? Not if I can avoid them John, decals don't like me and the feeling is mutual Please excuse the grade school drawing, am leaning towards the bottom one , either will have the hood one done and tied together also as you may see from the scribble I'm looking at putting rocker skirt/extensions on to lower it a bit body wise. Tyrone as to your helpful reply on the other board,I couldn't lower this body down without creating rear end humps to clear the tubs, my only issue there was going to be making a new rear window shape cause it would have changed the lines of the back of the car substantially imho. Cheers for the advise tho, I'm sure I can use it very soon. Brett
93Z34 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 The '62 Chevy really lends itself well to kitbashing like this. You are really putting together a great car. I've been following it on the other board as well. This is going to be a homerun, that's for sure. Nice work!
John Teresi Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Brett......the flame will look great......and as far as the skirts.....I have used them before and they worked out nice......good luck buddy.
Reliable Resin Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 thanks guys, got a bit more done can start the interior detailing now. As you can see the wheelbase is still a little off but when I enlarge the rear wheel openings ,I'll stretch them forward a little That Cage looks great , one the hardest cages to get "true" & "square" Lookin' fwd to seeing the FLAME job on this !
Reeves Racing Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) I really like what you've done so far Brett. It looks perfect. It has made me want to build one. Edited February 5, 2011 by seveeRRacing
buskid Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 thanks guys, got a bit more done can start the interior detailing now. As you can see the wheelbase is still a little off but when I enlarge the rear wheel openings ,I'll stretch them forward a little I had started something like this years ago. I altered the wheelbase, had everything painted, scratchbuilt interior doorpanels, the works. Then one morning my cat decided to destroy it. Oh well, I loved that animal! BTW, nice work!
brett Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Thanks guys, I got some time back at the bench today Hogged out the rear wheel arches, and made up some skirts slapped on some Tamiya putty and a few hours later started taking it back off

brett Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 Thanks guys, had a bit of trouble with the tape for the masks but turned out ok I think Trying to decide whether or not to put the skull n flames on the scoop, very unsure after last nights tape dramas
tyrone Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Brett, it's starting to fall together and it's looking good keep us posted...
