Plasticfanatic Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) This is my second scrachtbuilt Ford Fairmont using a AMT 1965 Pontiac GTO as a base, these photos show the progress of the build, by no means is a perfect replica but will make company to my other Glidden fairmont, besides I really like the look and color combo of the 1978 car....and it was a total dominator during that season, won every race it entered!! Do someone knows a good and reputable resin caster that will do only 3 bodys in resin for me? and how much could be the cost? Another modeler is working in a Fairmont in 1/25 scale and plans to offer it in resin kit form in the near future,it's a beautiful scrachtbuilt model and much more detailed that mine...and YES..I will buy one when it becomes available to!!, but anyway I would like to have 3 copys of my body for my two other projects. The start, first stage of cutting and getting the Fairmont profile from the GTO, the front end was cut from an AMT Roadrunner, styrene sheet was used as the new body filler pieces, the body angles and details profiles haven't been done or added at this stage yet, only plastic strip build up to get basic profile and angles. Hope you like it! Edited February 7, 2011 by Plasticfanatic

Modellpularn Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 This is almost like something Juha Airio would build.... Cool conversion of an obscure bodystyle!
Draggon Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 What a flash of genius starting with a GTO! The side profile look right on.
Foxer Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 That's some major bodywork ... going to be very interesting following this!
Bill Edman Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Awesome work kinda wish amt would bring the kit back keep up the good work
ajulia Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 This is way cool and a subject most ppl have forgotten since the 80's My grand dad had one of these and at that age i thought it was such a big car! Awesome idea and in a million years would have never thought of it!! This fella has to stay steady on the bench and look forward to the finished outcome!!
Modelmartin Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 That looks good! I loved that car when it was running. Dyno Don had one too and another guy ran the Mercury Zephyr version. Keep on going with this model. It will be a showstopper when done.
Tony T Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 What an ambitious project!! Looking good so far!!
Dragline Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Great work but isn't there a resin one already out there? Bob

shatteredsoul76 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Nice, the lines on this car remind me of the '77 Granada my grandpa had when I was younger. Im keeping my eye on this one.
Plasticfanatic Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Thanks for all the kind comments about this project, greatly appreciated. A little update, I still trying to get the Fairmont basic shape as close as possible before blending all the body parts, again this is not a perfect replica but I am pleased with the results so far. Made the new engine hood, front bumper(using a late 1970's Nova piece as a base)the back bumper is from plastic sheet lamianted as well as the lower panels in the side, the front bumper need a small piece of plastic to make the little "pointed" center to mimic the glille and front of the hood.there still some work to be done on top of the wheel openings to get the correct profile. Hope to be able to beging sanding and blending all the parts of the body tonight, so maybe by friday this conversion will be over....I hope!!!
