Greg Pugh Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) '40 Ford headlights are '40 Ford headlights. The neat thing is this kit and the AMT kit ,both lend themselves to an easy sunken / Frenched style headlight setup, simply by using just a round headlight assembly that will fit into the existing opening. Just push it all the way to the back of the headlight opening. Another neat custom touch would be to use a smaller scale headlight assembly from another '40 Ford in 1/32nd scale and doing the same thing. I've done both of these and they turn out really neat and they are easy to do.Another set up would be using the same round light and forming some sort of clear cover, giving it a '60's sports car look. Got any pics of these? I'd like to see how they turned out. Edited February 22, 2011 by gpugh1976
Greg Pugh Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 This is going to look good Greg. Keep going. Some Merc style headlights with the full glass cover would be one option. grumpy gus I thought about those. I even thought about maybe doing a set of early Buicks...
Greg Pugh Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Steal my post? Heck no! Let's see some more of that badboy!!
Greg Myers Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Got any pics of these? I'd like to see how they turned out.
vaughn Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Thats really lookin good. What was the color choice?
Greg Pugh Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 I wanted a nice medium yellow so I went with Ford's "Grabber Yellow" (same color that was available on the '70 Boss Mustangs)
Greg Pugh Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 I like your nerf bars. Where did you get those?
Greg Pugh Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 Well I dig 'em, I gotta find me some!
Greg Pugh Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 No pics but I thought I'd throw up a quick update. Greg Meyers sent me some of those nerf bars that I really dug on George's truck and my missing front wheels and backing plates showed up from the Modelhaus this last week. I just pulled 'em outta the soakin' tank and threw a coat of primer on 'em. I'm ready to start painting. I just need a day off and some good weather now.
tylersloan Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 and this is why i never picked up this kit but now im wishing i have bought one guess im off to ebay now cant wait to see you get this done your work is fantastic so far .
Greg Pugh Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks Tyler. This kit builds up pretty nicely. I'm just taking things over the top as usual!
Danno Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Hang in there! Finishing up an old, stalled project is a noble cause. I know. I have many. You may be inspiration for many of us!
Greg Pugh Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 Laid down some color today!! I've been waiting for this day for a long time!!
crazyjim Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Are you going to put in a dimmer switch? Looking good so far.
Greg Pugh Posted December 17, 2011 Author Posted December 17, 2011 (edited) Well poop! I've decided to go a different color with this. I noticed that the red plastic bled through in a couple of small spots. It would probably never be noticed but it would drive me crazy knowing that it's there. I've also heard horror stories about red plastic bleeding through years later even. I decided that the devil known as red plastic wins this time. The truck is going to be red. Everything is headed to the paint strippin' tank today. Edited November 5, 2015 by gpugh1976
qmhd Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Sorry to read that man ! I've never heard anything about red plastic bleeding through but I'm very scared as you know I've build a 40 pickup a few month later. Mine was bright orange and I hope their won"t be any bleeding in the future keep up the good work anyway !
Greg Pugh Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 The orange should be close enough to the red plastic that you shouldn't notice it bleed through. The lighter colors are the ones you have to worry about.
