Pete J. Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I know I have said it before, but good lord, what a piece of jewelry! Please just clear coat it and be done with it. It would be a crime to hide all that gorgeous metal work! I hope to see this build some day in person. I promise not to drool!
FASTBACK340 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 …………………………. ……………….
Randy D Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Hi Folks, Thanks Joe ! Hi Pete, You are right, no paint on this one Thank you my friend. John, Don't know what that means but thanks for checking in ! Update, Making up the rear bumper.... Changed up the support rods for the mast to solid pieces.. Making up some small support brackets for the fenders... more.....
Randy D Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Adding pulleys to the top of the mast.... Thanks for looking in ! Randy
Pete J. Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I am going to be so sad when you declare this model built. I have really enjoyed watching you build this from the beginning. Each piece has been an education. Thanks again for sharing it with us Randy.
Mr.Zombie Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I have been following this build from the beginning, Randy do me a favour please and sand down the inner surface of the wheel lip on the front. The rim sticks out way too much and it looks like a cheap China toy. Don't let a detail like that ruin this perfect build.
Randy D Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Hi Pete, Thank you for the kind words !!!! From my side I will be dam glad to actually finish this one Adam, The tires and rims are used for mockup only. This one really needs some cool ones but still haven't come up with the final solution ! Randy
olsbooks Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Applause, cheers, waving bic lighters in unison, throwing roses at the stage and other assorted fanfare This is most incredible. And to think I cant even pull off a decent set of homebuilt grab irons.... WOW. You are setting an incredibly high mark. Keep it up. Very, very impressive and inspiring to this glue bomber and bird turd solder junky. Peace.
misterNNL Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Surely we will all out of superlatives to describe this model as it nears completion.Top shelf stuff all the way.OK that's it,I'm out of big words to use!
Superpeterbilt Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I think Im going to give up modeling and take up field hockey. Seriously, this is so impressive that Im exhausted. Can I ask where you sourced the brass/copper diamondplate? Or is it cleverly painted styrene?Again, mind blown.
Randy D Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 Hi Folks, Thanks Eric !! Jesse, Glad you like it. Thank you Tom ! Terry, Thanks and the diamond plate came from Model Car Garage. It was the only scale plate I had found that I could solder. It is nickel silver, the others were plastic or stainless. Thanks Dan !! Hey Tyrone, appreciate it update.... I wanted a different style of boom , not the usual Holmes set up, and found inspiration in an old time steam crane. It gives me that low swept back style I was looking for..... more......
Randy D Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 Here is a mockup from half way thru the build up..... That is all for now, Thanks for looking in ! Randy
Pete J. Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Randy- Looks perfect. What did you use for rivets?
southpier Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 reminds me of the Alexander Li'l Hook pillar crane
Randy D Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 Thanks Pete ! Rivets are a photoechted strip from a company called Scale Link in the U.K. Hi Joe, Actually the Tichy 120 T Steam Crane. Randy
southpier Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 this is the one i was thinking, but it's been out of production for 50 years or so! http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/nos-alexander-scale-models-little-75040514
Belugawrx Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Hey Randy The boom is looking very nice Very tastey work here my friend Cheers
steve7119 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Randy, every time I see your progress, my mouth hangs open and a little drool runs out. I am in awe of your skills! Both this and the GT40 are works of art!. I would like to know where you got the pulleys for the mast? Are they more railroad goodies? Steve
Randy D Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 Thank you Bruce !!Steve, Appreciate the kind comments ! yes, they are more parts from the railroad stash ( Rio Grande Models)Randy
Petetrucker07 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 This is out of control. Awesome work. I almost feel not worthy enough to even look at this project.
Tony-442 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Wish we had a like button. I've loved this build right from the start. Keep up the amazing work Randy. Love it.
Superpeterbilt Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 More amazing work. That boom is spectacular. Good call with the custom shape. Its really the only thing that would have worked.
