Howard Cohen Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I am thinking of leaving some to friends, museums, charity and model clubs I know. I have a friend who has over 10,000 kits and still insists he will build all of them. If he finishes 1 a day, he has 27 years of building ahead, providing he doesn't buy any more. As he is in his mid 60s now, I doubt he will finish them...I doubt he will finish 1% of them as it takes him about 2 years to finish 1! But he keeps buying...as do most of us.
Railfreak78 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I've pretty much always had one plan when I go. Let the wife have everything. (and see fit to devide as she wants ) However her health is getting very bad and I worry it will be the other way around and it really made me rethink my life. I think If she outlasts me I would let her keep her favorite built ups and then give a couple of my friends that are in the hobby pick out their favorite built ups, projects and un started. The majority of it, like a lot of rebuilders, projects and a few un started that they do not take, It would go to my model club to be used in our annual auction to raise money for the club. That way I know they do not end up in the trash.
Terror Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Told the wife to hang on to them.I have plans to be the first zombie model builder. So I got that going for me.
Bridgebuster Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I hope my family will post all my stuff here for you guys to have for cost of shipping. Nobody else around here is into model kits and I won't care because I'll be in paradise. Would rather see y'all benefit from them than to try to get a few bucks.
Jon Cole Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I have a buddy in the hobby who will be asked to deal with it... he's a good guy, he can dole it out as he wishes. Keep some for himself, the rest goes to my club to auction off at the annual kit auction event. I just want the missus to get some $$$ from it. After all, some of it was bought with her $$$!

I thought about families posting for other reasons like in a case of an emergency, just make sure your login info is know for them.
HotRodaSaurus Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Its funny what people think of your old stuff, you can always tell when someone's relative(usually elderly) has passed on by whats selling at flea markets etc. You know, a table with about 100 pot pigs, or a lot of Elvis memorabilia and that sort of thing. Sometimes things are of value that other relatives dont know the true value of. I have an old WWII A2 leather jacket worn by a flyer during the Mediterranean campaign,my Mrs says, "Whats that old thing doing in the wardrobe? chuck it away if you dont wear it any more". And of my vintage Hot Rod magazine collection "What would anyone want 50 year old magazines for?". As for my models made and unmade kits, well if I pegged out tomorrow they would probably end up in a charity shop. John
David G. Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I honestly don't care what happens to my material posessions when I leave this life. I've already built several kits for friends and family to enjoy while I'm still here. After I'm gone, if anybody can use or get enjoyment from anything I've accumulated, great! If not, it's only stuff. David G.
walt francis Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 My wife knows all the boards and she knows what to do for all my friends....so you can thank me now.
The Modeling Hermit Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 My children have already been deciding who gets what. It's a little unnerving, and I've told them to please have a little patience.
modeler Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 It is something I've thought about now and then and still have no real idea. I'll be cremated and ashes will be, Well, What ever they want to do with them. My Models? Melted down into a life size figure of Me!! Maybe A huge garage sale posted everywhere she could think of and sell them off for what ever she can get? $15 for domestic kits and $20 for Foreign kits. Ye'all keep your eyes pealed. What do I care, I'll be Gone, gone, gone. if that happens i want your tow truck and drift car those are by far some of the nicer quality models on this site
DRG Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 My wife and daughter get everything when I pass. My daughter has already laid claim to several different things of mine.
Greg Pugh Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 It's funny. This thread pushed me into having this conversation with my wife last night. She told me that she wants to hold onto my built-ups (for herself) and I told her that I want my boys to have my unbuilt kits (as they're young and very much into building models) but I want her to wait until they're old enough to not only appreciate that they're getting "dad's collection" but also that their skills will be good enough that they wont end up regretting building any of them too early and having glue bombs.
ra7c7er Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Fast forward to distant future: MCM forum member: Wanna hear about a great score? My wife & I were vacationing in a remote area of _______ and we happened across a yard sale..... After everyone congratulates MCM member for scoring dozens of `58 annuals for $5 each we all wish it was us. Scenario #2: Your walking your dog and you see CASES of model kits being tossed into a church good-will van.... Scenario #3: You tell family members whom to contact for help in selling off collection in the event you hit the exit ramp.... I have seen all three to be honest. My mom actually followed a church van to a rummage sale because she saw model kits through the window. My stepdad bought me 10 kits while visiting his brother in Oregon at a garage sale across the street from his brothers house. And most of the time family members will just call an estate company to handle your stuff over some random person none of them know.
