lowriderphil
Not sure if this has been tried before or not but I for one have never liked the look of a kits fan belt molded into the pulleys, and I have never had any luck trying to layer up masking tape. I have not personally tried this yet but it looks like it could work, small rubber bands for doing up hair, 5/8" diameter and can stretch up to 2". If they work just think how many engines could be done on one pack alone.
ra7c7er
They look a little big and thick for direct fitting but cutting and gluing to lenth shouldn't be hard but shaving them down to a more realistic thickness might be a bit tasking. When you get some mocked up post some pictures.
Guest
Another way to do them is a narrow strip of masking tape doubled over, painted black, cut to length and glued in place. There was a article in SAE back in the mid 90's that showed how to do it. I've tried it, it's fairly nice.
brett
I've just taken to shaving the kit ones down with my exacto, gets them pretty close
my66s55
I saw a tutorial on using these type of elastic about 6 years ago and bought a bag. Never did try it. The masking tape idea that Lee mentions appears on the Italian Horses website of Alex Kustov: http://www.italianhorses.net/Tutorials/Drivebelt/dbelts.htm
torinobradley
I've used multiple layers of chartpack type tape and that works pretty good. Also saw someone use rubber skirting from fly tying. I have some but haven't tried it out yet.

John L.
I've used chartpak tape, also, with good results. But, my favorite is to cut "rings" from the "small" end of black party balloons. Very cheap, nice, thin, and stretches out very nicely.
