Darren B Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I would love to subscribe to the mag, but all the horror stories on here about the covers being shredded when delivered keeps me from subscribing, I like to keep my issues in pristine condition. One of the two last hobby shops in town just dropped carrying it cause it seems I was about the only one buying it. The other hobby shop only gets like 8 copies and when there sold out there gone. I know Gregg has said that it should be hitting the newstand soon. Any news on that?
Erik Smith Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 The December issue (155) is available now. I just bought one last week. It's a great issue.

"All the horror stories on here about the covers being shredded when delivered" seems to to consist of one or two incidents out of the thousands that are mailed out every month. I don't think it is all that statistically significant. Of course, if yours is one of those selected for destruction, it is significant. In those cases, Golden Bell gladly replaces the issue and as far as I recall, no one has complained about the replacement also arriving shredded. None of my subscription issues has ever been damaged in the mail. With all due respect, I would suggest your fears are not well founded; if you're having trouble getting the mag over-the-counter, give the subscription a shot. I wouldn't wait for it to show up on newstands; could be a very, very lonnnnnnnnnnnnng wait.

Darren B Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 Good plan. Sorry I missed that. No problem at all , trust me i try not to stir up things on here. Just want to get my mag its the best one out there.
RickRollerLT1 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 If this helps ya out any, my November & December '10 issues of MCM I got a month ago came all in one piece. Yeah, they took a while to get, but at least they had no damage to them whatsoever. All those horror stories I hear about ppl getting their mags shredded up when they get 'em in the mail dosen't sound like the work of the printing company itsself, but most likely the barbaric postal workers/drivers in the aera just trying to blast through the day slopply delivering mail. For example: a member of our club said he suscribed to the "Other" mag and got his issue all riped-up, and torn in pieces! I just got my April issue of that mag and it came fully intact. He thought the printing press that had a bad day at the plant or they all came like that, but then I mentioned to him it probably went through the horrible wrath of the mailing crew in Southampton.
Guest Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 It may be the post office wrecking them, but it's not the Post Office on my end, all my other mags come intact. Why is everyone here so afraid to say scale Auto?

Why is everyone here so afraid to say scale Auto? Maybe they're used to the Scale Auto Forum where other publications are unmentionable. David G.
Eshaver Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 so are confederate flag decals too............... Ed Shaver
stewart Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Why do we have to say so much bad stuff about the scale auto forum. I say each magazine and forum has their good points and bad points and we should leave it at that. Some prefer this forum and some the other. I used to be on the other forum quite a lot and only occasionally visit this one. Now it is the other way around. I prefer the "smaller" feel of this forum and how there are a lot of contributing members. However, the Scale Auto Forum also has its good points and this one has its bad ones. Who cares if they don't allow the Confederate flag or mention of this magazine. It is their forum. They can run it how they want. STewart
aarondupont Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Hi all: I just retired from the Post Office NOV 30. I was a Latter Carrier for 29 years. The Post Office is in the process of change over to "flat sorting machines". Flats are magazines, papers, etc. I saw a larger number of torn up magazines my last few months. Unfortunately, until they get the machines running and adjusted properly, we may all experience an occasional messed up magazine. Most printers print all magazines from a certain publisher. These are usually wrapped in plastic by mail routes. So for example, all the magazines published by the "other" magazine come wrapped in one bundle for my route. They have address stickers etc already in place. I would sort them into my case for delivery. Now, everything has been coming in tubs machine sorted in delivery order. You just make bundles at the back of the truck to deliver. I hope this helps. Aaron Dupont
Gregg Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Thanks, Guys. This is the Model Cars Magazine forum, and if that doesn't explain the reason why things should be the way they are, I don't know what to say. If you want to diss MCM, do it elsewhere, please. If you want to diss another mag, please don't. This is about MCM, and me, of course :-) Me Me Me!!!! Sorry, back to the seriousness. I am in second rounds of discussions with some, well, one newsstand distributer, and it looks good so far. The way trends are now with magazines, they are looking for titles with a long and solid history, and MCM has now been published for going on 12 years. That's not bad considering everything, and that's actually amazing when you look deep into the soul of MCM. Not many titles worldwide can say this, and I think MCM has done pretty darn well with all things considered. Yes, I'm late, and so full of excuses. But like so many here have said, you think you could do better? I see new startup mags all the time, and the pay-as-you-go mags are nothing more than fads, in my humble opinion. I mean, ten bucks for a thirty-something page magazine? (No offense my old friend, you know I love you still, right?) It's more of a boutique thing, and yes, there is a place for it, and yes, we will be pursuing that in the future. Isn't that contradicting myself? No, not really. There are going to be times when this will work well, especially when it's a short run, like some stuff we have planned. So, that's all for today. I hope. I am still waiting for the results from the surgery consult last week in San Fran. No word on that yet. I don't think no news is good news in this case. Also, if you do get a torn up mag, call the office, they will send out a replacement right away. I did a long post before about the economics of this issue (no pun intended), and I think it covered all the points clearly. Okay, now I pau...
Von Don Koolkat Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Distribution is one of the toughest hurdles a magazine has. I like the 'boutique' phrase
