steve7119 Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Here is the mock up of resin Jeep PU on my workbench. Problem is this is a '50-'59 model and what I am trying to replicate is my 1:1 project 1948 Jeep P/U. Biggest difference is the grill. 50-59 has an egg crate style grill and the 48 has verticle bars. Anyone have an idea how to replicate this grill? 1:1 the verticle bars are only 3/4 inch wide, in 1/25th they are .03 wide. I am also looking for scale wheels that I want to use on my 1:1. 6 bolt from early full size jeep wagoneer. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Steve
Nick Winter Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 For the wheels, check the Revell '57 Chevy Black Widow, it has 6 lug steelies. Nick
Erik Smith Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) Grill might be similar to the Hasegawa jeeps. I don't have one to compare or measure but they are 1/24 scale. Second the six lugs from the Revell 57 kit. I just looked at hasegawa kit online - only nine slots vs 10 in your photo. Edited April 11, 2011 by Coyotehybrids
Joe Handley Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 In all honesty, with any open top Jeep (literally from WW2-JK Wrangler!) and that generation closed cab Jeep, just some sheet styrene could get you what you need with a little effort and imagination!
Eric Stone Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 There's a remnant Jeepster grille in the newest release of the Jeep Commando, but the lights aren't quite positioned right, and the number of openings is wrong.
butchey Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Yes but the 48 is Flat and so is the hood but coud be made !
evilone Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 try getting the revell jeep (the one with the yellow jeep on the front) and cut the front grill/ headlight housing to fit
steve7119 Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions. I have ordered a '57 from Model Roundup along with a set of 6 bolt resin wheels from them. The grill isn't quite flat, it is more pointed in the center. Been wondering about photo etch, but don't want to part with the cash it would take to buy the equipment. I got a friend who works in a machine shop and swears he can make it if I give him the dimmensions. Gonna have to take him up on it I think. Says he has .005 drills. Steve
Sam Cates Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Steve, where did you get that resin body? I NEED ONE!! I have a 1:1 '52 that I want to build a "prototype" for.
Bates Offroad Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 cool build. I would also like to know where you got the body
Chuck Most Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Is that the old AAM resin transkit? Or, better, is somebody casting an early Willys Jeep pickup again????
charlie8575 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Neat project, I'll be watching. Charlie Larkin
steve7119 Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 I got the kit from Race Motor Replicas you can google rmrresin and find him or www.freewebs.com/rmrresin/nf125.htm He has a couple jeep kits. This 50-59 pick up and a 50-59 jeep wagon among other really neat vehicles. If I remember correctly, there is an email with the site, so I contacted him and sent a check for the truck. This one came with the body, chassis and interior pieces. Chassis plate has moulded in engine and there is no suspension. I already made some front springs and plan to build axles the same way a 1:1 is done. I haven't had any experience with resin kits so I can't say if this one is good or great, but it looks good to me. Castings are solid and the dimensions seem to be on target.
Duntov Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Some time back .... around 2000 I think there was a 1:25 scale jeep 4X4 that came out. Dragon or AFV CLub....something like that. I have one someplace..... I'll try and find it and get the brand...... It was really different in that most military subjects are 1:35. Also.... AMT had a Hogans Heroes '45 vintage Jeep that appears on e-bay from time to time.... you might try that too... it was 1:25 scale... More when I find the brand..... It's been packed away for some time..... Regards Bill (Duntov)
