FACEL (Forges et Ateliers de Construction d'Eure-et-Loir, in English: forge and construction workshop of the department of Eure-et-Loir) was initially a metal-stamping company but decided to expand into car manufacturing in the early 1950s. Facel entered the automobile business as a supplier of special bodies for Panhard, Delahaye and Simca.
Swifster Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Early cars from '54-'58 used DeSoto & Chrysler hemi's. They switched to 383's in '59. Nice cars, but good luck getting parts. Never have seen one in model form.
Chuck Most Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 A car with Vega in the name! The editor of that other magazine (the one without "Model(s)" or "Car(s)" in the title), is going to flip his lid when I send him the link to this thread! And/or ban me!
peter31a Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I started to write that they were hot with Hollywood A-listers like the Rat Pack but after checking referrences I find out it was a car called the Dual Ghia that had been popular at the time. Similar look but Ghia was perhaps sleeker. I have been a fan of Facel Vega since a young age after picking up a book called Cars in Profile published in 1974 and one of the cars profiled was the Vega. I had never heard of it but thought is was a very handsome car. Also featured in this book are the McLaren M8 series, the 4 1/2 litre Bentley, the Formula 1 Matra Fords, The Jaguar D Type and the Rolls-Royce Phantom II.
