i like the new hood. looks good. great to know about the kills paint. should be good for red plastic kits as well.

If Kilz covers purple plastic, then it'll cover red plastic as well!

I primered the hood and it can out fantastic!

Unfortunately, I was heavy-handed with the primer on the body so I have much sanding to do to smooth it all out.

I think it is a safe bet that Kilz will cover that colored (purple, red, or even...orange) plastic with a couple of coats. Just go easy with it and not heavy handed! :)

thanks mike! :)

I'll be interested to see how well Kilz performs for this. I've used Kilz on other non-modeling projects and have been far less-than-impressed.

Mike, have you used it under lacquers before?

No problem, Sean! :D

Charlie, I did a test of Kilz on the rear valance panel and it worked very well. The key is to use very light coats and to build it up to cover the colored plastic, then wait 24 hours before using paint. Then I used Model Master Hemi Orange Lacquer over the Kilz primer (two light coats) without any problems. This is my first time using Kilz, so I was a little apprehensive about using it...hence the test on the rear valance panel.

It has been another crazy week and I have been picking at the 'Cuda when I can. This afternoon, I was able to get some painting done. This is two light coats of Model Master Hemi Orange Lacquer.

It's not a whole lot of progress, but I did say that this would be a slow build. Now that this is done, I need a beer!

Thanks Brandon! In my haste to get the body and hood painted, I forgot about the ducktail spoiler which is still in the box. I gotta get that out and painted, too!

Thanks Luis!

I finally dug out the ducktail spoiler from the box, cleaned it up and painted it.

I had removed the mirrors from the doors and stashed them away with the rest of the loose parts from the "Cuda. I decided to pin them to the doors, but first I primed them with Kilz primer and will paint them later when the primer has dried.

70Cuda50.jpg

I used up the last of my Tamiya Fine Surface Gray Primer on the bottom of the interior tub and the chassis. I'll apply the body color overspray when I paint the mirrors.

More to show on my Hemi 'Cuda. I lowered the from suspension by cutting off the kingpins from the front suspension with my razor saw.

70Cuda52.jpg

Using a piece of parts sprue, I reattached the kingpin about 1/8th inch higher.

70Cuda53.jpg

While the front suspension was drying, I attached the ducktail spoiler to the body.

I started work on the Hemi this morning by adding the carbs with fuel lines, headers, painting the coil and starter, and drilling holes for the heater hoses.

70Cuda55-1.jpg

I drilled out the distributor, painted it, and added my plug wires. The coil wire will be added after the distributor is mounted and wired. The heater hoses will be added later.

A mock up of the chassis and Hemi to check header fitment. Looks good! I'll extend the exhaust system to connect with the headers.

You're doing one heck of a job on this one, The details look perfect, I also like the "Kilz" idea, Good to know that its safe for styrene , One question, Did you have to use any other primer on the parts? Or just the 'Kilz"? I use alot of Krylon solid light colors , And to me the best way to paint a light color, Is to use white primer. This is coming along great,And I can't wait to see the finished product. Just a suggestion for you, Clear the body parts with the Testors One Coat Lacquer. That stuff works great, I was painting my 66 Nova yesterday, I thought It was to dull and blotchy, But 2 coats of that stuff leveled it right out. I was using the 1966 GM Mist Blue I had mixed up almost 10 years ago. Now the car looks great in my eyes, Plus I didn't run into the issue you had with the 68 Road Runner Hood, I just used the Duplicolor Gray Filler primer, Let it dry, and went over it with a 2400 grit polishing cloth, Then misted on 2 light coats of the color, After about an hour I started adding the heavier coats. , Back to your Cuda, I think the bodywork and details you're putting into this is flawless. Excellent job on this one. As most people miss the key detail , the front rollpan should be done how you did this one. Very impressive job !

Thank you for the kind words, Steve! I used only Kilz for primer on the body. I was afraid of losing details if I used multiple coats of various primers so I used just a few light coats of Kilz and it worked great! When I get to clearing the body, I will use Tamiya Gloss Clear TS-13. While others rave about Testors One Coat, I didn't like it at all. No matter how I tried, I couldn't get even coats of color and so for now on I will stick with product that works for me. I have used other Testors product, but the One Coat didn't impress me at all. The front valance needs to be blended in with the front fenders in order for it to look right. I have done this one the last 3 or 4 'Cudas that I have built and when I see a 'Cuda without any bodywork on the front valance, it just looks all wrong!

Again with the bump! Bumping this thread is not going to get me to finish it faster, especially since I have set this one aside so I can focus on my Shelby GT350H and Hurricane Irene. When I started this thread, I stated that this is going to be a slow build and that is not going to change. I appreciate your attention to this build, but bumping the thread will not get me to finish it any quicker. Sorry, but I have a lot going on in my life right now.

I know you have alot on your mind right now about Irene and I hope you make it through. I was just seeing if there was anything done with the build.

Brandon, I hope you and everyone else will understand that if I do make any progress on the 'Cuda, I will post it here. Please do not bump the thread or post "Any progress yet?" on it. Thanks.

Well, it has been over three months since I have last looked at this build which I had packed away when I started to lose interest in it. I have been thinking about it this past week and I am considering pulling it back out and completing it when I finish either my '64 GTO or '07 Shebly GT500. It is usually not like me to put away a project or to lose interest in one. At least I still have it and maybe I am regaining interest in it again.
