crazyjim Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Here's the Nissan Skyline I just finished in HOK galaxy gray that's been sanded and polished. Wheels are done in that gensing stuff. Looks pretty stock - until you open the hood. There's a big ole American V8 in there. The M/T valve covers, alternator, and carb are my castings. Solder was used for the headers.
george 53 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Dang, Jim, GREAT minds think alike!!!!! I did the same thing to mine. I dropped an LT-5 in it. Not really hard to do(it's plastic) but I moved the hoses to the OTHER side of the firewall. Wanted to keep it symetric. if ya know wat I mean.I had to mate my engine to the trans that was molded into the chassis. Did you just take it out(the tranny) or did you just mount your engine to it too, without all the mod work to do it? Yours came out REAL NICE! I LIKE IT!!!!!
crazyjim Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 The kit front & rear suspension and engine were all seperate pieces. The engine and front drivetrain were put into the parts bin, so I used only the actual front suspension parts. I did have to make a sleeve to connect the kit driveshaft with the transmission. The engine just slid right in without modifications. This is the first wrong side drive kit I've built and I guess I'm just used to putting the hoses on the right side. Glad you like it George53. I love the lines of the skyline body and was finally able to score one in a trade.
MrObsessive Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Not a big fan of older Japanese iron, but I like that! And the layout is nice for such a small car! That'll certainly smoke the tires!
crazyjim Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 You're right, Bill. A 1:1 would really smoke the tires. But what a sleeper, huh? Everything look stock until you get under the hood - well maybe the exhaust pipes exiting in front of the rear tires provide a hint too.
W-409 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 This is the only way to get Skyline interesting. Great job with it. I personally don't like that body model, but paintjob is good. Engine looks very good, I like the detailing on it. Headers are looking good from what I can see. Nice job with it.
crazyjim Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Thanks guys. Sorry to disappoint you Wheelman. The engine came from the parts bin so I don't know the origin except I put my casted M/T valve covers and alternator on it. I have the Nissan engine if your interesteed in it. The finish on the wheels is the ginseng stuff. It's a very fine powder that gets into everything and is expensive - like $25.00 for a little jar.
LAone Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 pretty creative. i like that. as for that RB engine, i wouldnt mind trading it. what you looking for??
crazyjim Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 That's the stuff - Kosutte Gin-San. I've tried it over black, gray, blue, and a few others and can't get it to look like chrome, but it looks great on wheels and other parts as a cross between chrome chrome and black chrome. LAone - how about trading another engine? A Chevy small or big block would do.
LAone Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 for sure. im sure i have a few in my parts box. ill have a look later tonight. mesage me your info and we'll go from there.
highway Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Overall, it looks very nice Jim, but I sorry, I don't care for the engine choice. Skyline enthusiasts everywhere would cry seeing such a disgrace under the hood, I know I am!
crazyjim Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) Oh well, Highway. My build. My choice. Your probably won't like what I'm doing to a 1935 Auburn either. PM sent to LAone. Edited June 9, 2011 by crazyjim
diymirage Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 thats a great model you build Jim, except..... wel.... i dont think i would have..... nope, cant do it, cant think of anything wrong with this build you took a run of the mill econobox and made it into a car....kudos
Erik Smith Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 you took a run of the mill econobox and made it into a car. ??? The Skyline isn't run of the mill OR econobox. Not my favorite Skyllne either, but I like the look and idea. It's a model, so why not? Nobody on their right mind would do it in real life.
Tonioseven Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) I dig your Skyline build . As for diymirage, it being a run-of-the-mill econobox, do some research on Google and Wikipedia. Again, I love the creativity of your build. Great work. Edited June 14, 2011 by Tonioseven
Keef Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Nobody on their right mind would do it in real life. O RLY? http://www.streetfire.net/video/nissan-skyline-r34-with-ls1-twin-turbo-v8-under-th_95344.htm
crazyjim Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 Everyone should be welcome to their opinion, as we've seen here. I hold no hard feelings towards anyone, and hope the feeling is mutual. I'm not a "purist", so anything can happen in my builds. Joe - I have the '35 Auburn I'm working on and the stock engine won't be going in it. The kit version is all chrome and I might have 2 of them. I'm not positive, but they might be straight 8s.
george 53 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Guys, it's a MODEL CAR dudes!!! he coulda put a dang ROCKET in it and it STILL woulda been cool! These are flights of the imagination, NOT REAL CARS!!!! why get SOOOO worked up over a little toy car??????? Jim did a GREAT job on it. Too bad it has to be broken down as if it WERE real. you guys are takein this a little TOO seriously. The WHOLE idea is to have FUN doin what your doin! Did ya ENJOY buildin that little car Jim? If so, THAT'S the whole point!!! It may not be a REAL one, but it's STILL a cool ride.
crazyjim Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 I had a great time buildin' the Skyline, George. I was happier than a pig in stuff when I didn't have to alter the hood for the new engine. The headers are solder into aluminum tubing collectors into smaller diameter aluminum tubing.

WHY does every REPLY you post HAVE so MANY capitalized WORDS in IT? is the CAPS lock button BROKEN on your KEYBOARD or SOMETHING??
crazyjim Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) I used to go up to Milwaukee the week after the Indy 500. Same cars & same drivers. Everybody had those high winding little 4 or 6 cylinder cars, except for one guy who ran a Chevy V8. The car wasn't the fastest, but it sounded the best. Nothing like the sound of an American V8! Don't worry, Ken. I'd never put a flathead in a Ferrari - but maybe a Chevy 396, or a Ford 427 Cammer, or a Mopar Hemi. Pretty bad of me to even think it, huh? I haven't decided on an engine for the '35 Auburn yet. The original engine is on it's way to LAone. The bumpers have been tossed and the openings filled; grill cut out; 3 round taillights on each side; and probably some 23" Pegasus wheels/tires. Edited June 10, 2011 by crazyjim
george 53 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 If you understood what i said, then WHAT'S the problem here? I gotta pm from someone else here who THINKS i want to pee with him???? whats up with THAT??? If you do not like what i say,or type rather DON'T read it! Yeeesh this is a MODEL CAR forum, where'd all the supposedly perfect spellers come from? Some of you guys REALLY take this stuff TOO darn seriously. I THOUGHT we were supposed to have fun here building models, NOT trying to teach others how to spell. Jim said he ENJOYED building that model, an to me, THAT'S all that counts! CAN YOU READ THIS PROPERLY??????? Yeeeesh, B)
crazyjim Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 I respect the opinions of all my fellow modelers, but this is my thread about my build, and I would like it to stay on the subject of my Nissan Skyline with a Chevy engine. Right, Gregg? A modeler gave me a seat last night at the IPMS meeting and asked me to pop a mold and cast the puppy. So I'm off to the shop to do some work.
Guest Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Cool build Jim! Too bad your thread has been turned into a pissing match. Maybe it would have pleased everyone if you had stuck the Skyline engine into an American car.
