Monty Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Has Revell given any indication that they'll retool their '72 Cutlass convertible so that it has the Cutlass Supreme roof? The mechanic who's been servicing my Corvette for the better part of 20 years has one like this, and I'd like to do up a replica for him.
Chuck Most Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 People have been asking for one since the droptop kit popped, I'd be more suprised if Revell ignored the hardtop version.
Guest Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I'm kinda surprised that a resin caster hasn't offered this body already. They're probably afraid Revell will come out with one immediately after they do. Ron Hamilton built a nice formal roof with one when the kit first came out.
bbowser Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I'll bet you could take the roof off AMT's '70 Monte Carlo and be really close. Would probably have to do some work on the interior to remove the doglegs?
cruz Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I would love to have it and build one to display it next to my convertible....
kelson Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I would buy a few but i'm willing to bet you'll see a 70'442 convertible pace car first it seems more the natural choice.
Chuck Most Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 The AMT '70 roof is the same as the '72 Cutlass 'formal' roof, a lot of guys rolled their own that way. And Dave is right- the fastback style has been done on every other kit of a Cutlass this vintage. I'd say odds are better than ever of seeing Revell kit the formal version. I mean, who'd have thunk any mainstream styrene kit manufacturer would have kitted a Chevy 150 Utility Sedan until Revell actually went out and did it? Then again, if it's anything like what Revell has done with its Tri-Five Chevy and '32 Ford kits, who's to say they won't offer a '72 with BOTH roofs at some point? I'm pretty sure a hardtop Cutlass from Revell will happen, only time will tell when and which one.
charlie8575 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I'd like to see the formal-roof car, too. I much prefer it over the fastback (not that I dislike that,) but it would be nice to have a model I want to build without having to hack up other cars to do it. Charlie Larkin
charlie8575 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 That's okay, Ed, if I can figure out how to hack up stuff and have it come out right, one other future move (and one I hope Revell has the stones enough to pull off) would be a Vista Cruiser! If they REALLY want to be bold, a standard F-85 or Cutlass wagon would be cool, too, and definitely unexpected, although converting one from a Vista wouldn't be too tough (four-inch shorter wheelbase, similar length reduction, and the flatter roof.) Charlie Larkin
Chuck Most Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Yeah, I doubt we'll see a wagon, due to the reasons Charlie just pointed out. I'd love a 4-door '72 Cutlass kit, too, but let's just say I am NOT holding my breath!
