Anybody else seen this show? It was on today, I had to shut if off after not one, but two people referred to a '38 Ford as a Dodge. Like the big Ford emblems on either side of the hood weren't even a giveaway? Won't be watching this again!

Overhaulin' was good for about 5 minutes, before it got "old".

I loved "Rides".

Once they got the overbearing personalities involved w/the various "reality" shows, it was all over for all of them.

"Overbearing personalities" are the whole basis of reality shows.

Any reality show has 2 strikes against it before it airs because they all seem to have some pre-manufactured deadline or put-on outside stressor to make the story more dramatic. To me any car-themed reality show gets the third strike because inevitably there's some "business" angle to the thing...how much it sells for at auction, or that the build has to be done at 20 minutes after 3pm the next day just because. It takes the focus off the car, and they just treat them like a commodity.

Overhaulin' was interesting for about the first 3 episodes just in terms of the "Can they really finish it that fast?" factor, but once it became clear that they could...well...there wasn't much point. All the ones that followed have followed the same tired storylines....they are either a rip-off of Overhaulin' or the car equivalent of Pawn Stars/American Pickers like this one.

Yep, and since this is about a classic car dealer, it's pretty much all about the bottom line on this show. I was really struck by how 'not knowledgeable' the main guy seemed to be about classic cars. I mean, I'm no expert myself, but I was trying not to scream at the TV a couple of times, and I couldn't even sit through the entire episode!

I loved Rides, too. I never really got into Overhaulin', but I did watch a few episodes of Pinks before that host started getting on my nerves. I used to watch Trucks back when Stacy David still hosted it, but now it seems like EVERY automotive show has the overbearing personality thing going on. I mean, look at American Hot Rod... every episode unfolded exactly the same way, the only thing different was the particular car they were working on in that episode!

I've always preferred saying it the "Willeeees" way. It sounds coooler that way :)

Not that Wikipedia is always right, but here's what they say...

"Willys (correctly pronounced "Will-is", but almost universally as "Will-eez") was the brand name used by Willys-Overland Motors, an American automobile company best known for its design and production of military Jeeps (MBs) and civilian versions (CJs) during the 20th century."

I grew up hearing it as Willis.

Like how to drive into Italian Police cars & get into fights with Italian Police Officers?, or how to get your show kicked out & banned from Italy? :P

Please stop me from making a new thread:

"What do Willy's, Camero, and Crager have in common?"

*insert missing ninja smilie* as I jump into my Mercede's and hightail it out of here ;)
