DanielG Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 All of the above, with the rider that I have never built a model car or truck from scratch(with the exception of a 1/24 scale British heavy armoured car that I did when I was still in high-school) Most of my scratch building was done when I was selling doll's houses and now is mostly confined to gaming. Most of my recent model vehicles are conversions and kit-bashes and OOB aircraft which hang from the ceiling and so have quite a few parts left off as unnecessary (if it aint seen it aint used!).
Mooneyzs Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I feel I fall into all 4 categories. It usually depends on the build I am working on. Sometimes I like to do something that is straight out of the box, other times I may kit bash a project using various parts from different models. Then on builds that I want to do very detailed I will use purchased aftermarket and Resin Items. Then when there is scratch building I will do that as well. If I had a miniture lathe and mill, I would machine some of the parts myself but since I don't and cant afford one I will buy turned parts. There are various Items that I will draw up in my 3D CAD program and plan on having some of it machined for me but some of it is for me to make out of plastic as well. I have a couple builds that i want to do in the near future which I am going to draw some chassis's up so I can figure out how i want to scrach build it. I even have one project where I am going to draw up the body and the frame and scratch build it out of plastic.
Foxer Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) I'm in Class 0. I don't do classifications, categories or slots. The closest I'd come is is the Mike (Foxer) DeRagon catagory .. but even that is ill defined with two names! Maybe Unfinished says it, but I'd make a liar of you saying I DID finish about 12 in the '90! I just do whatever needs to be done to meet my imagination for the build at hand and jump in ... cruz Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 The one that walks in a catwalk??? I'm just kidding. I would go with 1 and 4.
JamesW Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I would say all but #1. Some may LOOK box stock, like this one: But I used hoppin hydros tires to more replicate the tires that were on my 1:1 and used the bench seat from the S-10 Xtreme. So this one actually falls into #2 and #3.
Scott Colmer Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Seems like a lot of my builds start as # 1(ish) then end up as #3 with some #2 and #4 mixed in. I really like making stuff. Scott
Nick Notarangelo Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Honestly Rommel,it all depends on the mood and kit basicly. Do I wana go stock or maybe slightly modified,or full out zoom zoom on it. It is a good question thought but it really depends on afew of those factors.
